Second Brain – Synthesis

Freeform metal is exactly what it sounds like. It doesn’t exactly follow any pattern and just goes all over the fucking place in terms of rhythm, sound, and whatever else you can come up with to describe a song. And straight out the gates, Second Brain’s debut album “Synthesis” does just that with guitars that have a very wide variety of style and sound that just sounds really good throughout the entire album. The vocals also have a solid rhythm, pace, and overall sound to them that I believe will suit a lot of people out there will enjoy simply … Continue reading Second Brain – Synthesis

Almøst Human – Ø

It would appear that underground metal has a healthy surplus of kickass melodic metal bands that are now slowly crossing my radar and the latest one that I’ve found is Almøst Human’s “Ø”. This album has fucking boat loads of melody but it’s also in absolute perfect harmony with the heaviness that it has which also comes in fucking boat loads. It has the vocals, the rhythm, the right guitars, the right drums, and the sound of a true underground metal band because this is something that has the potential to become huge but hasn’t because they just haven’t reached the … Continue reading Almøst Human – Ø

Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Carcass have returned with their latest EP which I personally found really, really enjoyable. “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is an EP that is on the “calmer” end of death metal with that they don’t have the same deep, guttural vocals of bands like Cannibal Corpse, and doesn’t have the ultra fast pace of thrash metal. But it’s just the absolute perfect balance to me because I like both of those subgenres and just an album that has taken some of their unique takes on the genres is fucking awesome to me because I could listen to this stuff all day long. … Continue reading Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Elvenking – The Pagan Manifesto

I like to think of Elvenking as the kings of power-folk metal simply because I think they’re the best at making it since they’ve been doing it longer and better than anyone for years, and their latest album “The Pagan Manifesto” is only another reason as to why they still wear the crown. This album truly is great to every extent of the word and that makes me salivate (not literally) because this album just makes me excited for what else Elvenking has up their sleeves since this is probably my favorite album from them because of this once again … Continue reading Elvenking – The Pagan Manifesto

Fallen Theory – Ghost

Whoever said that heavy metal is dead? No one? Good! Because it’s not and Fallen Theory’s latest album “Ghost” is proof of that in every single way! This album is what melodic metal is all about especially since I personally cannot place this in any specific subgenre so I will just call it melodic metal just because that’s what it fucking is. “Ghost” is to me a kind of blend of Seether and a dash of Disturbed because even though they might not be direct influences you can just make out some similarities. Or maybe not and you think I’m just talking … Continue reading Fallen Theory – Ghost

War On All Fronts – Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1

Technically, War On All Fronts isn’t a record label. It’s a fanzine that has just very recently started putting out releases and this fantastic compilation is one of them. “Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1” is an extremely solid compilation of fast paced metal that ranges across the genres of black, thrash, death, and speed metal in its finest moments from the underground metal scene. All of these bands and their songs bring a ferocity to their respective genres and infuse them with lightning speed and each song compliments the previous one and the following song so the flow between … Continue reading War On All Fronts – Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1

Jonestown – The Erebus and the Terror

Alright. I need new pants. “The Erebus and the Terror” is an amazing album that while I personally would not place it in my top albums of the year (that list is already set just about) it is a damn good debut EP. If someone wanted me to show them a technical metal album that was heavy and brutal then I’d show them this because Jonestown fits that description perfectly. The vocals in this album have an amazing sound that are melodic at times and utterly hardcore at others but they both balance each other out so neither quite overpowers … Continue reading Jonestown – The Erebus and the Terror

In Days Forgotten (self-titled)

With In Days Forgotten being one of the very first bands I ever reviewed when I began this shit, I leaped on this album when I first saw it on Spotify. Their previous EP was great and now they’re new self-titled full length album is even better! This is what I like to call brutal metalcore which is between regular metalcore and deathcore. If you want a point of reference – Killswitch Engage is normal metalcore and Consumption is deathcore, and In Days Forgotten is smack dab in the middle and I love it! The variety of both conventional and … Continue reading In Days Forgotten (self-titled)

Tóxica – Egoísmo Autodestructivo

Argentinian thrash metal.   I’m just gonna let that sit up there by itself because it’s an odd statement all on its own. Tóxica has brought forth an EP that is electrifying to the touch and brings energy and adrenaline to whoever listens to it. Now I will say that I’ve no idea in the world what was being said for the entire album, it doesn’t matter because this EP was fantastic simply because of the pure thrash metal that is being played. This is an intense EP that I really enjoyed because I like to think that I listen … Continue reading Tóxica – Egoísmo Autodestructivo

Dawn of Ruin – Poço da Infâmia

Dawn of Ruin’s latest album “Poço da Infâmia” is an album that I personally would not listen to on a regular basis, but it’s one of those albums that is fast, raw, and brutal to the core. This is a mixture of death, thrash, and black metal at some of its most hardcore and I’ve no doubt that those of you out there who are into this kind of hardcore metal will get infinite joy out of this badass piece of work because it comes with 4 normally recorded demo tracks and then another 4 tracks of live performance for … Continue reading Dawn of Ruin – Poço da Infâmia
