Crows – Better Off Dead

This is one of those album where the entire time is filled with 100% genuine rage that just goes on and on to the point where you know for a fact that if you were where this was being played live then there would be a mosh pit that formed instantly just because of how hardcore and brutal Crows is. And each a every song from “Better Off Dead” is jammed into comfortable times of less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds for all the songs, and under 3 minutes for most of the songs (only two go past 3 minutes). But … Continue reading Crows – Better Off Dead

Timeworn – Luminescent Wake

Sometimes you don’t have to go anywhere to find interesting music. Sometimes the interesting music finds you. That’s what happened when I got an email to do Timeworn’s debut album “Luminescent Wake” that comes out on the 14th of this month. This is another hardcore punk rock album with some metal in there to give the album so more meat, but this album seemed to have more rhythm and a better sense of brutality that I found to make this style much more appealing. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a punk album so there’s still that anger and … Continue reading Timeworn – Luminescent Wake

Hombre Malo – Persistent Murmur of Words of Wrath

I know some of you went “what the fuck” when you saw that cover because I certainly, but thankfully past this cover was an album that had both hardcore punk rock and hardcore black metal where the two seemed to have been thrown into a meat grinder and cemented together into one cohesive, brutal album that just went on and on. Now some might find that “on and on” factor to be unsavory, but those of you who can withstand sitting there and listening to each song for what they are can certainly find really good things in it that … Continue reading Hombre Malo – Persistent Murmur of Words of Wrath

Unearth – Watchers of Rule

Oddly enough, it’s not often that I can really find a band that has made an album that I can say with 100% certainty is undeniably material that is tradition head-banging material. Now some people might disagree, but I’m not some people so I say it is. The guitars enforced this violent and hardcore sound to “Watchers of Rule” that made is so goddamned enjoyable for me throughout the entire album where not one moment goes by without a moment where you couldn’t be head-banging. And (of course) the vocals and drums are behind this feel also. The drums have a brutal … Continue reading Unearth – Watchers of Rule

Zero Gravity – Holocaust Awaits

It’s not every day that a new female-fronted death metal band pops up, you know. So when one does come up and record a debut album, you gotta get on it because you never know what it’ll be. And in this case with Zero Gravity, it worked out really, really well. Everything about this album just did an absolutely fantastic job at bringing to raw death metal to the ears of listeners from the moment that they first lay eyes on that cover because come on . . . it’s fucking awesome. The vocals really bring that raw feel that I just … Continue reading Zero Gravity – Holocaust Awaits

Snowy Shaw – Fire (single)

I’m not really into this sort of music, but it’s Halloween and that means horror and that means horror metal! And this was by far the best one that I could easily find. Snowy Shaw’s new single “Fire” is one that implements what is probably considered the more “stereotypical” horror metal because of the look of Snowy Shaw and the overall general sound of this single is everything that would be expected as a “normal horror metal album” even though I thought this was pretty good overall as a song by itself. It had good vocals, guitars that had good … Continue reading Snowy Shaw – Fire (single)

Itnuveth – The Way of the Berserker

Spanish metal, you say? I know you can’t see it but I am raising my hand because yes, please! And let me tell you  . . . it’s worth it. Itnuveth’s debut album “The Way of the Berserker” is an ancient-themed album (as if you couldn’t tell already) and has an almost literal electric feel to it with black metal that is infused with a little bit of thrash. Although, there’s not enough thrash for me to call this a thrash metal album it’s still very noticeable and a very welcome addition because I’m all for thrash metal in just … Continue reading Itnuveth – The Way of the Berserker

USNEA – Random Cosmic Violence

Doom metal. You should have an idea pop into your head when you hear that. If not, then you need to listen to more doom metal. And if you don’t listen to doom metal then you should listen to “Random Cosmic Violence” from USNEA. Don’t ask me what USNEA stands for because I don’t even know if it stands for anything at all so you’re fresh out of luck. No, I’m not saying that I believe that “Random Cosmic Violence” is “the best” doom metal album there is out so all you fan boys out there can calm yourselves down. But I … Continue reading USNEA – Random Cosmic Violence

Toxoid – Aurora Satanae

Unbeknownst to me, India has a black metal scene that is on the rise. I was not told about this, and I’m beginning to wonder why, but that’s not the point today. The point is is that Toxoid is the latest black metal band to join the scene and while they may not be the absolute best in my opinion, they have the sound and brutality needed to climb the rankings pretty quick if given the chance. Toxoid has the harsh vocals that a lot of black metal and death metal bands and they’ve thrown them together into raspy and … Continue reading Toxoid – Aurora Satanae

Soulskinner – Crypts of Ancient Wisdom

I’m going to give you an equation. Don’t worry if you’re bad at math and you don’t even have to think about answering it. Greek band + death/black/thrash metal + ancient theme = ??? Turns out that the answer to that equation is Soulskinner’s new album “Crypts of Ancient Wisdom” (told you you didn’t have to think about answering). And when I say this band did exceedingly well at molding death, black, and thrash metal together into one badass album I mean they did extremely well at it! This entire album front to back is absolutely hardcore and brutal with vocals so … Continue reading Soulskinner – Crypts of Ancient Wisdom
