Death Comes Pale – World Grave

I’m sure you can notice from the band name  . . . and the album title . . . and then the album cover that Death Comes Pale isn’t fucking around. This entire album is one death and black metal piece of work that is literally meant to (as the cover suggests) tear are your ear drums and envelope you in brutal metal that just doesn’t end with songs that range between three and a half minutes to almost eight minutes long! Damn. The vocals don’t give a moment’s rest along with the guitars that are absolutely brutal with the … Continue reading Death Comes Pale – World Grave

From Earth – Dark Waves

From Earth is out of this world! Now that we got the stupid cheesy cliche intro out of the way, “Dark Waves” is truly one to impress. The entirety of this album is jam packed with hardcore brutal everything (vocals, guitars, drums, you get the idea) coupled with some choruses that have a more melodic sound to them that really suck you in and make you listening to everything that’s going on. The guitars have such brutality to them along with the vocals that just don’t give you a moments rest gives you the feeling that you hear them and … Continue reading From Earth – Dark Waves

Vitutus (self-titled)

If you’re one of those people that actually look at the tags that I attach to my reviews you would’ve noticed by now that I didn’t through Vitutus’ debut under a particular sub-genre. And that’s because this album doesn’t remain within the “territory” of one sub-genre. Instead it goes all over the place. And that’s a really cool thing because it shows that Vitutus can do several different styles and make them sound good with a traditional death metal-like vocals which are also quite solid. All through the album there is a constant sound that (as the band itself told … Continue reading Vitutus (self-titled)

Slipknot – .5: The Gray Chapter

The fateful day has arrived and let me tell you – it’s been worth the wait for us true Slipknot fans. Over the past few months the band has been releasing literally half the album to the public through YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, etc. for all of us to hear and gain an insight as to what the final product was going to be like. It all began with “The Negative One” and it all took care of itself from there. But now the full album is out and now we can all appreciate what Slipknot has created for us. I … Continue reading Slipknot – .5: The Gray Chapter

Manhack – Dominicide

You know, I’ve seen quite a few artists out there use sound bits from outside sources to add a little something to their music, but I have to say that Manhack is the first that I’ve heard that uses sound bits from video games. These games are “Bioshock Infinite”, “Fallout: New Vegas”  and “Doom 3”, and if you know your video games then you know that they have plenty of good moments and Manhack takes those moments and throws them into an absolutely brutal album. “Dominicide” is an EP that is short and sweet. By sweet I mean completely hardcore … Continue reading Manhack – Dominicide

Halahkuh – Breaking the Shackles (single)

Halahkuh’s latest song “Breaking the Shackles” is from their upcoming album to which I don’t know the name of. What, did you think it’s that easy? Well, it’s not. Sorry to burst your bubble. Anyway, this single really does an excellent job of throwing together death and thrash metal into one cohesive 5 minute and 36 second track that sounds like it’s meant to make your ears bleed (kidding). And I really like what one sentence reads on the Bandcamp page for this single. It reads, “this is a well-tempered Thrash/Death song laced with melodies while not eschewing the band’s … Continue reading Halahkuh – Breaking the Shackles (single)

Obituary – Inked In Blood

Obituary’s upcoming album “Inked In Blood” comes to us on October 27th and I can guarantee that true fans of Obituary will not be disappointed. If you are . . . well, listen to it again. While I, personally, would not give this a ten out of ten, five stars, or two thumbs up, I do give it a singular thumb raised to the air and a high recommendation for anyone who’s into death metal. The only real thing that I have to be a nit-picky critic about is that I believe death metal sounds much better when it’s fast and brutal. … Continue reading Obituary – Inked In Blood

Askrinn – Hjørleifsljóð

Before I get anywhere let me just say . . . that viking metal makes for some awesome music. And on that note let me also say that Askrinn (“the ash tree” in Old Norse) is not viking metal, but viking-themed black metal. This is much like how Amon Amarth isn’t viking metal but instead viking-themed death metal (whether you fan boys believe it or not). Anyway, Askrinn’s a one-man band, and those can really go two ways. Good or really really bad. So far in my experience with them they haven’t disappointed me and Askrinn hasn’t done me wrong … Continue reading Askrinn – Hjørleifsljóð

Atriarch – An Unending Pathway

With me never hearing an Atriarch album before (insert fan boys’ angry comments below just because of that), I walked into listening to this album not knowing at all what I was getting myself into. And luckily it all worked out beautifully and turns out that Atriarch has got something pretty good going on with their upcoming album “An Unending Pathway”. The first half was a little bit too slow for my personal taste, but I’m quite sure that some of you hardcore devout doom metal fans out there will get a few kicks out of this album. The pace … Continue reading Atriarch – An Unending Pathway

Abysmal Dawn – Obsolescence

First off – that cover art is amazing! Now, Abysmal Dawn’s upcoming album “Obsolescence” is an absolutely brutal album that has an extremely dark theme to it embraced in vocals that are the most unrelenting that I’ve heard so far in death metal. The entire album is just completely raw and vicious to no end with guitar solos that are very impressive in their calmest moments and have a totally deathly sound to them. And the vocals like I said are hardcore and have a sound to them that can literally make ears bleed if they were played loud enough … Continue reading Abysmal Dawn – Obsolescence
