Saint Diablo – Devil Horns and Halos

I remember hearing Saint Diablo’s well received sophomore self-titled album and thinking “meh” at best. And then I saw that they were releasing their third album, “Devil Horns and Halos”, and felt skeptical when I got the email containing the album, and holy fucking shit was all that worrying for nothing. The producer for this album says, “Saint Diablo has written the best record of their career yet”, and he was absolutely right. This 10-track hard hitter of an album holds nothing back as this is some of the heaviest hardcore that I’ve heard for a long time. The vocals bust … Continue reading Saint Diablo – Devil Horns and Halos

Never Again – Death Metal Tsunami

It’s always good to know that there are new bands out there doing their own things with the genres that we all know and love, and in this case Never Again has only strengthened my love for melodic death metal with their newest EP, “Death Metal Tsunami”. While I cannot understand a single word that the vocalist is saying at any time, they have a terrific sound that is both super intense and just filled with anger while still having that nice tinge of melody because melodic death metal. There are 3 songs in total off of this EP and … Continue reading Never Again – Death Metal Tsunami

Santonegro – Derailing

This is one of those albums that you’d listen to if you were just on a long drive and wanted some nice rock to listen to all the while. Santonegro’s new and debut album, “Derailing”, has a real crunch to it that I don’t find a lot in the world of stoner rock, but I welcome it graciously as all five tracks off of this record have a great sound that any real rock fan out there can agree with at any time of the day. The vocals have a really nice flow to them that for whatever reason I … Continue reading Santonegro – Derailing

Torchia – Ending Beginning

Of all the sub-genres of metal that there are, I’m probably the most familiar with death metal of all of them. Torchia sadly brought nothing all that new and fascinating as their debut EP, “Ending Beginning”, is a basic death metal album that is just that: death metal. The vocals are intense as you’d expect (not Cannibal Corpse intense), the guitars and bass are fast and heavy to really bring out the death metal, and the drums have a solid beat in all three tracks that aren’t very interesting to me but they earn my approval nonetheless. What would really … Continue reading Torchia – Ending Beginning

Ende – The Rebirth of I

I remember hearing Ende’s last EP, “The God’s Rejects”, a few months ago for the first time and just being blown the fuck away. It was literally everything and anything any sort of atmospheric black metal fan could ever think to want out of one album. The vocals were raw beyond comparison, had a solid melody while being as sporadic as possible, and having an amazing sound. Everything was fast and relentless, that goes double for the guitars, drums, and bass as all three of them had such a raw texture and speed to them that I could not help … Continue reading Ende – The Rebirth of I

Riverside – Love, Fear and the Time Machine

I’ve never been big into progressive rock as it’s always felt bland and unoriginal in a lot of cases, but Riverside have broken that streak for me with their brand new album “Love, Fear and the Time Machine”. This is an hour long album with only ten tracks on it so if you like long songs then you’re sure to get your fill with this piece. Each track has a very nice flow to it that was only amplified by how fluid that vocals were alongside the guitars that were very atmospheric in some areas. That’s always a plus for … Continue reading Riverside – Love, Fear and the Time Machine

Iron Maiden – The Books of Souls

Out of all the big metal bands of way back when, Iron Maiden is easily my second favorite right behind Metallica, but they’re newest album, “The Book of Souls”, may just be my new favorite Maiden album by a long shot. If you were scared that Iron Maiden was going to veer off the course they’ve been paving down since album one, you have nothing to worry about because “The Book of Souls” only goes further down that road and it has a fantastic sound and a classic feel all the while with at the same time having some modern … Continue reading Iron Maiden – The Books of Souls

Magen – Thoughts in Greyscale

Alternative metal really is just the music that radios prefer because it’s easier on people’s ears and is usually censored, and I don’t care enough to see if both of those quality for Magen’s debut EP simply because it’s good and that’s all that matters to me. “Thoughts in Greyscale” feature a female vocalist which is something atypical of metal music overall sadly, but Magen doesn’t let that stand in their way as they use the vocalist to her maximum potential as she creates an interesting flow that I feel like would be lacking a little if the vocalist was … Continue reading Magen – Thoughts in Greyscale

Esotera – Origin

It’s typically easy enough for me to put an album into a subgenre or two, but with Esotera’s debut album, “Origin”, I can only come to death metal as a conclusion, but even then it doesn’t feel like death metal. The vocals are very much like death metal from time to time, but overall Esotera plays in a genre that I cannot place, and it sounds pretty fucking good I have to say. The guitars had a very solid variation between being heavy and having a calmer pace and feel to them that is really what seperates “Origin” from normal … Continue reading Esotera – Origin

Slayer – Cast the First Stone (single)

I was gonna wait until the actual release of “Repentless” to actually check out anything about Slayer’s new thing, but I couldn’t resist anymore when they put out “Cast the First Stone” and decided to check out what the fuck this album will sound like when it drops. And just based upon this song, “Cast the First Stone” has brought my hopes up a little bit in terms of excitement for “Repentless”. Even though I’ll fully admit that I’m more of a Metallica guy and have never really been into Slayer as other people, I have checked out my fair share … Continue reading Slayer – Cast the First Stone (single)
