Disturbed – Immortalized

I have been a fan of Disturbed for years, heard of all their albums, loved some, disliked one, and waited for this one. And now that “Immortalized” is now out in full I can happily say that this is without a doubt Disturbed’s most mature album to date. It is also the album that has the best guitars of any of their albums; that’s what really stood out to me. They had the same sound and feel as Disturbed, but the pacing and texture of them were fresh to my ears and while David Draiman’s voice still remains the same it has … Continue reading Disturbed – Immortalized

Morvidus – …As Shadows in the Night

Never have I heard of a man thinking to create a black metal album that combined several aspects of literature alone, but that is exactly what the one man band, Morvidus, has done with his debut album “…As Shadows in the Night”. Taking a massive influence from the Romantic era of literature, Morvidus creates an amazing blend of lyrics that take bits from famous authors of the time like Johan Christian Dahl, Caspar David Friedrich and Samuel Palme while also making interpretations of works like “Ozymondias” and “MacBeth”. He then takes those influences and molds them into an atmospheric black metal … Continue reading Morvidus – …As Shadows in the Night

Stone Healer – He Who Rides Immolated Horses

Sadly, there’s not a lot of bands of the metal world who know how to make their music contain any sort of emotion, and that’s what makes them stale and boring. That is the exact opposite the case with Stone Healer’s brand new album, “He Who Rides Immolated Horses”, and it’s fantastic because of (1) that cover art is sick and (2) these 4 tracks are absolutely fantastic by any standards. This album is creative in every sense of the term from the cover to the pace and rhythm of all the instruments. The vocals went from a flowing singing … Continue reading Stone Healer – He Who Rides Immolated Horses

Nathyr – As the Legacy Unveils

There’s nothing quite like a folk metal album done in a unique way, if you ask me. The genre always manages to amaze me as different bands implement different instruments depending on its sound and/or if it’s influential from their culture, and in this case it’s the latter of the two. Nathyr’s debut album, “As the Legacy Unveils”, is an amalgamation of progressive, death, and folk metal that are all blended together amazingly without any one genre overpowering the other. “As the Legacy Unveils” is also representative of Nathyr’s Egyptian origins as the instruments used on the album are instruments … Continue reading Nathyr – As the Legacy Unveils

From the Hellmouth (self-titled)

If you’re looking for an old school death metal album that is raw and contains enough new flavor to make you head bang for joy, then From the Hellmouth is here to satiate such needs. Albeit this EP only has 5 songs to it, that is all it needs in order to bring some old school death metal that many people have been craving for ever since too many death metal bands became generic and losing the touch of the genre’s roots years ago. “From the Hellmouth” has got the deep and guttural vocals that are pretty much a necessity … Continue reading From the Hellmouth (self-titled)

Deathwhite – Solitary Martyr

Dark metal has always been that genre for me that has always seemed to be good, but any band that I’ve heard from that genre never really ends up in my favor. It always sounds clunky and lazy to my ears, but Deathwhite has thankfully broken that trend for me with their newest EP, “Solitary Martyr”. All 5 tracks off of this album are very smooth, and flow really well together which is something that I also think a lot of dark metal bands lack and could use a lot more for obvious reasons. The vocals have an amazing flow … Continue reading Deathwhite – Solitary Martyr

Archaea – Catalyst

I’m not sure what it is with Gothenburg, Sweden producing amazing melodic death metal bands, but I can say that I’m not even getting close to bored with that place after it’s produced great bands like Despite and Chugger. And now, another such band has been added alongside them and that band is Archaea with their debut full length album, “Catalyst”, being the exact breath of fresh air that I needed as a melo-death fan while still remaining true to the traditional feel of the genre. The “fresh air” that I’m talking about is the fact that Archaea has a … Continue reading Archaea – Catalyst

Betrayal – Black Magic Whore

I’ll say this once and once only: do not let that cover or album title dismay you or make you think this album isn’t to your taste. If your taste is straight heavy metal that doesn’t fall under any sort of subgenre other than just “metal”, then Betrayal are here with just the album for you! This British band have created an album that if someone told me was made in the early days of metal, I would’ve totally believed them because that’s the era this has the sound of. The vocals off of “Black Magic Whore” have got a real smooth … Continue reading Betrayal – Black Magic Whore

Obedience to Dictator – Hogzilla

Brutal death metal has never really been my favorite kind of death metal, but I’ve always been willing to check it out for curiosity’s sake. And thank God (or Satan, whatever) that “Hogzilla” by Obedience to Dictator is something that I could really listen to even though I’m still not crazy over it. The vocals were as brutal as you would expect from brutal death metal while also having a killer sound, guitars that were intense, and drums that matched just about everything else in terms of intensity. If you’re into brutal death metal then “Hogzilla” is for you. It … Continue reading Obedience to Dictator – Hogzilla

Deconsecrate – Nothing Is Sacred

I don’t think I have to convince you that Deconsecrate holds nothing back because . . . well . . . you see the fucking cover art. Generally, the cover the visual representation of the album, and “Nothing Is Sacred” is no different. Straight from the very first second of the opening track, Deconsecrate lives up to their name as this album is brutal in just about every sense of the word. The vocals are the only thing that aren’t as brutal as they could be (not deep enough), but overall they are done really, really well and bring intensity … Continue reading Deconsecrate – Nothing Is Sacred
