Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches

Eleven albums is more than enough albums to really create different sounds that a band wants to experiment with and I know for a fact that Cradle of Filth is no exceptional as their first ten albums varied, but not a whole lot, to where no album repeated the same sound and feel twice and the same exact thing goes for their brand new album, “Hammer of the Witches”. While I can’t say that this is my favorite album that Cradle of Filth has put out, I can say that I enjoyed this for what is was and all that … Continue reading Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches

Korpiklaani – Noita

Korpiklaani is without a doubt the undisputed kings of folk metal bands that play about beer. Very deep, meaningful beer. Anyways, I saw that they released “Noita” and immediately hopped onto this album because this is the band that first got me into folk metal so it never hurts to return to your roots and check out what’s gone on. “Noita” is a very solid album for its genre but it didn’t really feel like folk metal until the fourth track. For whatever reason, the first three just didn’t feel folk metal-y albeit they were nice they just weren’t impressive … Continue reading Korpiklaani – Noita

Children of Bodom – Morrigan (single)

I’m sure anyone reading this knows who Children of Bodom is so I’m not gonna waste your time by explaining their style of melodic death to you as you just want to know what their new single, “Morrigan”, sounds like. Well it sounds fucking awesome. I liked their previous album “Halo of Blood” but I didn’t love it like many people did, but the style was very intruiging to me and with this new song I can tell that “I Worship Chaos” will be a whole different beast altogether. The beginning of this track starts off very melodic and even … Continue reading Children of Bodom – Morrigan (single)

Human Desolation – Mind Grind Paradigm

The metal scene of Stockholm, Sweden sure has got its shit together because it has been the birthplace of countless great bands and the first one that comes to mind for me is Despite, but now another band has been added to that very good list and that band is Human Desolation with their upcoming melodic death album “Mind Grind Paradigm”. This album has got all you could need out of this genre unless you love the really deep vocals which are not on this album, they’re more of a straight scream if you know what I mean by that. … Continue reading Human Desolation – Mind Grind Paradigm

Sideburn – Evil or Divine

We all know of one band who we consider to be a “radio band” where all the songs off of that band’s albums are made exclusively so that they get on the radio only to make money regardless of overall meaning of a song, whether or not it has a point to existing, blah, blah, blah. Well Sideburn isn’t like that, but the sheer sound quality and how catchy their new album “Evil or Divine” is in its entirety. With a run time of 44 minutes with only 7 tracks to it, “Evil or Divine” is a very solid piece of progressive … Continue reading Sideburn – Evil or Divine

Speedwhore – The Future Is Now

Thrash has been around since the very beginning of when metal first developed its first sub-genres which means that it has been subject to an infinite number of fans who wanted to take their own unique style, and Speedwhore is no different if you can’t tell from their name. Their new album, “The Future Is Now”, borders on being speed metal but it just manages to stay within the territory of normal thrash with the speed of the guitars being impressively fast but not quite fast enough. The beginning track is also a lot slower than what you’d expect from … Continue reading Speedwhore – The Future Is Now

Hybrid Nightmares – Ash and Bone (single)

Coming back with the third installment of their 4 part album “Ages” series, Melbourne based Hybrid Nightmares have come back to us with the first track off of “The Third Age” which is due by either late this July or early August, either way doesn’t matter as I will wait as long as I have to for this album. I still love listening to the previous two albums, “The First Age” and “The Second Age”, every single day because they have an amazingly good quality sound of black metal mixed with progressive metal to make a crushing feel and intense … Continue reading Hybrid Nightmares – Ash and Bone (single)

Omega Diatribe – Abstract Ritual

Groove metal has always been subject to a whole bunch of modifications as any genre with bands taking many different approaches to create their own unique sound (ex. Five Finger Death Punch). Adding death metal-esque vocals, implementing some math metal, and even some djent to mix it up a bit have all been things that Omega Diatribe have done to make their groove metal their’s with their newest album, “Abstract Ritual”. And while all of those mixed together sound unlikely at best to skeptics like myself, the final product is much more refined and a lot more badass than what I originally thought. … Continue reading Omega Diatribe – Abstract Ritual

Funeste – Le Triomphe du Charnier

Oh, it’s one of those black metal bands is it? One of those that you see the band’s logo and it looks either like a bunch of twigs flung unto each other, lightning going every which way, or lightning twigs going every which way. Well thankfully, Funeste is also one of those good black metal bands as this Canadian duet (duet) whose debut album, “Le Triomphe du Charnier”, is spot on what you would expect from a band from the world’s 2nd largest country. “Le Triomphe du Charnier” only has 4 tracks to its name, but those tracks are absolutely … Continue reading Funeste – Le Triomphe du Charnier

Between the Buried and Me – Coma Ecliptic

The thought of mixing metalcore and progressive metal together is interesting to me because I like both of those genres, and the possibilities are endless when combining the two. Well after hearing Between the Buried and Me’s new album “Coma Ecliptic” I found one version of progressive metalcore, and that version has a shit ton of piano in it. The run time of the album alone, almost 1 hour and 10 minutes, was one hint to me that this album was gonna be something else and it was. The guitars vary between being smooth and calm to more a more intense … Continue reading Between the Buried and Me – Coma Ecliptic
