WRTX – A Message Left Behind

Alright, listen. I know metal. He knows metal. She knows metal. We all know metal. And whenever a good metal album comes along, we either jump on it like ravenous dogs on some meat, or it goes totally under our radars only to be discovered years later. No in between, sadly, just the two opposites of the same coin. In this case, WRTX and their album “A Message Left Behind” is one of those unfortunate albums that are jock full with awesome metal moments but were left behind (no pun intended) to be picked up again by inquisitive people such … Continue reading WRTX – A Message Left Behind

Great Reversals – Natural Burials

I’d like to thank the drummer of Great Reversals, Eric Scobie, for emailing me and informing me about “Natural Burial”. Never would’ve heard of this if he never told me, and I’m kinda glad that he did because this was a decent album to say in the least, however it’s not amazing. The vocals (in my opinion) seemed a little bit off beat with the guitars and drums and that kind of put me off a little bit because I like there to be synchronization among every member. But it did get better along the way so that was good. The guitars had a … Continue reading Great Reversals – Natural Burials

Victim of Illusion – Oxideyes

Victim of Illusion is a progressive rock band that does just what you’d expect from a progressive rock band. They have a calm, but upbeat, tone and sound in their new album “Oxideyes” that does the band a lot of justice to those rock lovers who just like that smooth sound to it that can also have an edge to it but still sounding great to their ears. I can see someone just going down the freeway in their car alone tapping the side of their car to the beat of this album. I don’t know about you, but I … Continue reading Victim of Illusion – Oxideyes

Nexus One – PURE HATE

I’d like to give credit and thanks to Paul Belcher on Twitter for the suggestion of today’s and tomorrow’s bands. As you can see the first one I’m doing is Nexus One’s “PURE HATE” (yes, all caps). First off, that cover art. Second off, a really solid debut EP for a small band from the UK that I’ve never heard of. Everything in the EP was very well rounded with nothing over-shadowing another. That’s how I saw it, at least. The vocals are rough and have a tone to them that just takes the cake with the subtle brutality that can be … Continue reading Nexus One – PURE HATE

Falconer – Black Moon Rising

First off, folk metal as always had it’s moments for me even though I don’t listen to a lot of it. One of these moments is when I heard “Unsung Heroes” by Ensiferum. Great song no question. Unfortunately, most other folk metal songs cannot replicate that sound for me. Falconer has always been one of those bands that I listen to just for the sake of something to listen to. It’s one of those bands for me that you hear come on and you think about it before going “eh, fuck it I’ll let it play”. I had hopes that … Continue reading Falconer – Black Moon Rising
