Gentrification – Deviance

German metal! I know. . . the first band that (usually) comes to your mind is Rammstein. Now while Rammstein are considered the leading band for all German metal groups, that definitely does not mean there are bands that can’t challenge Rammstein for best German metal band. And right here is an excellent candidate for that is no other than Gentrification. Their debut album “Deviance” is an amazing work of death and thrash metal that basically had a kid and that kid was “Deviance”. While this album is over all a hardcore mixture of those two genres, the band thought … Continue reading Gentrification – Deviance

Incite – Up In Hell

Told you I was going to be back with this album! Didn’t believe me? Well, fuck you (kidding). And thankfully, “Up In Hell” was better than I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be reminiscent of Wretched’s “Cannibal”, and it was in some way but not completely. It was a really solid album, though. As Incite’s third album to be released, the vocalist, Richie Cavalera, commented on Metal Injection that they replaced their drummer and bassist and that “they brought a much more “raging” vibe to the music”. That’s always good news! More rage, … Continue reading Incite – Up In Hell

Aphyxion – Earth Entangled

As Aphyxion’s second album to release, “Earth Entangled” is by no means a push over. And as the cover art might suggest, the album is one that will surely get a lot of people into a mosh pit if they heard this at a concert. Everything is ultimately very good sounding death metal. The vocals are of course very deep and are brutally raw in that they always have a constant harshness that never ends as long as they’re present along with the guitars that are just heavy as all hell. And the drums have a hardcore beat and relentless … Continue reading Aphyxion – Earth Entangled

Despite – EPic

“EPic” was a killer of an album. I’m sure someone could’ve told by the cover which I absolutely love, it’s amazing. Being Despite’s second release it really blew me away. While I haven’t heard their first release (yet), I can tell already that they were either this good from the start or got much better over time because these types of albums don’t happen on a normal basis. The EP was a very well done energetic metal album that is classified as death metal on their bandcamp page . . . I don’t think I would personally call this death … Continue reading Despite – EPic

My Own Demise – Happy Viking Bloody Fest

I’ll say it now. . . that name did make me laugh. I mean come on. I’m not saying it’s bad but it’s definitely interesting and I think the band members expecting somebody to at least get a chuckle out of that. But to the point. This death/groove metal album was pretty decent in my eyes. Nothing fantastically amazing to me, sadly, but nothing atrocious either. The vocals were acceptable but they could’ve lent themselves better to the songs. I’m not saying they did a terrible job of course, I just don’t feel like they did as much justice to … Continue reading My Own Demise – Happy Viking Bloody Fest

Ashes of Existence – Eviction (single)

“Eviction” is certainly a piece of work. As the single from Ashes of Existence’s debut EP “Declination” it gives us an interesting little preview to the EP. The single was a mix of death metal and metalcore that turned out much better than some other examples I’ve heard before. Sometimes the song leaned more towards metalcore and other times towards death metal but no matter what it still sounded good to me. The vocals had nice variety going from deep to the common metalcore screaming with the band’s own twist on them, of course. The guitars are harsh and yet … Continue reading Ashes of Existence – Eviction (single)

Ominous (band)

From what I could find, Ominous doesn’t have any form out in the form of an album until the 30th of this month (for Americans at least). But Ominous did inform me about a music player on Facebook that takes their songs from reverbnation.com and allows them to be played on Facebook. Which is fine by me in any case as long as I’m able to actually hear the music. Since Ominous doesn’t have an official album out yet, I’ll just talk about their 5 songs that are available. And in all honesty I cannot place whether Ominous is sludge … Continue reading Ominous (band)

Terminal Death – Terminal Death LP

(I’ll be honest for this : the following quote is from the bio for this LP that’s presented on Bandcamp as a description, and I could not put it in any better way. Thought I should say that before some dick calls me a copying bastard.) “When you talk about the earliest Death Metal bands, we think of SEPULTURA, DEATH, POSSESSED (all stemming from VENOM) right off the top, but there were a few ripping bands that quickly fell into obscurity and TERMINAL DEATH is one of those bands. This is not just an obscure band; they could have been a HUGE Death Metal … Continue reading Terminal Death – Terminal Death LP

Novembers Doom – Bled White

Anyone who is a veteran listener of death and doom metal know that Novembers Doom have been at it since the very beginning pretty much. They are one of the main guys that when you see that they’re gonna be at an event or whatever you know that you’re gonna get the real deal. There’s no two ways about it when I say that a lot of these new death metal bands coming up have surely taken at least some influence from the previous work of Novembers Doom. And this album is without a doubt one of their best ones that … Continue reading Novembers Doom – Bled White

Hate Division – Order of the Enslaved

When you hear the phrase “Canadian death metal”, nothing really comes to mind right? Well that’s because until now there really hasn’t been any fabulous and outstanding bands with good albums to hail from Canada. But Hate Division’s brand new album “Order of the Enslaved” is now at the forefront of the Canadian death metal scene. When I was looking for an album to review today, I came across this album and saw that it was released today. Look at the name of the band and the album. Why wouldn’t have I as a death metal fan chose this one? … Continue reading Hate Division – Order of the Enslaved
