Panikk – Unbearable Conditions

It’s been a while since I’ve heard a real, true, and 100% organic sounding thrash metal album and I wouldn’t rather have it come in the form any other than in the form of a band’s debut fucking album because debuts (as I’m sure you know) always set the tone for future albums and this tone is really fucking awesome. “Unbearable Conditions” is a fast paced and raw thrash metal album that I really enjoyed since I’m big into the ol’ thrash and any band that can replicate that sound gets an automatic two thumbs up from me because yes! … Continue reading Panikk – Unbearable Conditions

Arcade Messiah (self-titled)

Once again, an instrumental album has managed to find itself in my email inbox. Today I was able to get my hands on Arcade Messiah’s self-titled debut album that comes out next month for everyone else. The album is mainly post-rock, but there are heavier moments that can be found throughout the rest of this album which is really nice especially if you can appreciate simply how good it sounds. Each song can be used as something that you can listen to easy with the slightest of head-banging going on, or something in the background to keep your brain focused … Continue reading Arcade Messiah (self-titled)

Polanski – Between This and Hate

Apparently there isn’t a really big grunge scene in Finland at the moment. Who knew? Not me, of course. But I found this extremely weird because . . . well Finland and the countries in that area are revered for having a massive metal community as we all know, so why isn’t there more variety like grunge? I’ll never know but this band, Polanski, is proof that Finnish people can make just about any rock and metal music and make it sound completely badass. And “Between This and Hate” is no exception to that rule at all. This entire album … Continue reading Polanski – Between This and Hate

Amken – Adrenaline Shot

“Adrenaline Shot” is Amken’s debut EP as a thrash metal band from Greece that certainly looks a doozy just from looking at the cover art. This EP, as you may have already guessed, is an album that incorporates what I know some people to call “horror thrash” which is exactly what it sounds like: thrash metal with a horror theme to it. And while it’s not as fast as some other thrash metal bands I know, Amken still has that electric feel to them that all bands of the genre have and carry throughout the albums which gives each song … Continue reading Amken – Adrenaline Shot

Attic Prologue – From the Ashes EP

There’s metalcore and then there’s these friggin’ guys. As I’m sure you know, there’s quite a few genres out there in the metal-verse that end in “core”; namely metalcore, deathcore, powercore. Now I thought that Attic Prologue’s debut EP “From the Ashes” was more deathcore to begin with rather than metalcore, but as the album went on it became clear that this was metalcore but just a more harsh, raw, and unpolished version of it. Now this isn’t like Killswitch Engage if you’re one of those people who hear “metalcore” and just immediately think of Killswitch. This is a much … Continue reading Attic Prologue – From the Ashes EP

Crows – Better Off Dead

This is one of those album where the entire time is filled with 100% genuine rage that just goes on and on to the point where you know for a fact that if you were where this was being played live then there would be a mosh pit that formed instantly just because of how hardcore and brutal Crows is. And each a every song from “Better Off Dead” is jammed into comfortable times of less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds for all the songs, and under 3 minutes for most of the songs (only two go past 3 minutes). But … Continue reading Crows – Better Off Dead

Timeworn – Luminescent Wake

Sometimes you don’t have to go anywhere to find interesting music. Sometimes the interesting music finds you. That’s what happened when I got an email to do Timeworn’s debut album “Luminescent Wake” that comes out on the 14th of this month. This is another hardcore punk rock album with some metal in there to give the album so more meat, but this album seemed to have more rhythm and a better sense of brutality that I found to make this style much more appealing. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a punk album so there’s still that anger and … Continue reading Timeworn – Luminescent Wake

Zero Gravity – Holocaust Awaits

It’s not every day that a new female-fronted death metal band pops up, you know. So when one does come up and record a debut album, you gotta get on it because you never know what it’ll be. And in this case with Zero Gravity, it worked out really, really well. Everything about this album just did an absolutely fantastic job at bringing to raw death metal to the ears of listeners from the moment that they first lay eyes on that cover because come on . . . it’s fucking awesome. The vocals really bring that raw feel that I just … Continue reading Zero Gravity – Holocaust Awaits

Echo The Aftermath (self-titled)

While having the edgy sound that some of the musically-soft people would call metal, Echo The Aftermath does not fill the criteria for me to call them a full on metal band so I’m gonna go with hard rock, and hard rock is good nine times out of ten so there’s nothing wrong with this self-titled debut at all. The guitars are definitely those of hard rock because they have that feel of “heaviness” (put that in quotes ’cause some people would get mad if I called these guitars heavy) to them that has a really nice feel to them … Continue reading Echo The Aftermath (self-titled)

Itnuveth – The Way of the Berserker

Spanish metal, you say? I know you can’t see it but I am raising my hand because yes, please! And let me tell you  . . . it’s worth it. Itnuveth’s debut album “The Way of the Berserker” is an ancient-themed album (as if you couldn’t tell already) and has an almost literal electric feel to it with black metal that is infused with a little bit of thrash. Although, there’s not enough thrash for me to call this a thrash metal album it’s still very noticeable and a very welcome addition because I’m all for thrash metal in just … Continue reading Itnuveth – The Way of the Berserker
