Crypt Sermon – Out of the Garden

If there was ever a doom metal album that practically made me throw my money at the band through the screen of my computer then this is that album because this – this – album is the epitome of the doom metal genre and is such an album that just stunned me as I reveled in its magnificence. “Out of the Garden” is an absolutely perfectly done album from the cover art to the breath-taking riffs to the vocals that, dare I say, are the Ozzy Osbourne vocals of doom metal with its sound and haunting feel alone that persist the entire … Continue reading Crypt Sermon – Out of the Garden

Acid King – Red River (single)

If I didn’t know that this was a totally different band I would’ve thought that I was listening to Mastodon’s attempt at doom metal, and it wasn’t bad! It was pretty good in fact! “Red River” off of Acid King’s upcoming album “Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere” is an amazing example of doom metal done by someone who knows what the hell they’re doing because just the first minute sounded awesome and it had barely any notes and it had this great sound an rugged feel to it that felt really awesome. I can only imagine what the full … Continue reading Acid King – Red River (single)

Apostate – Time of Terror

Doom metal is renowned as being slow and heavy as metal comes, and they’re right, but there aren’t a lot of bands that still cling onto that really old school doom that not many remember much less pull off exceedingly well. Apostate has gone back to that lost era and has created an album that brings that era to the present with their 5-track beast of an album “Time of Terror” with its crushing riffs and the combination with death metal gives a real gruesomely harsh texture to the songs that makes them feel much more than 7+ minute songs. … Continue reading Apostate – Time of Terror

Dead Alone – Nemesis

This album is probably the most perfect blend of black, death, and doom metal that I have heard recently. My only true lamentations about this album is that the album seems to last a lot longer than its actual run time and I’m more of a fast paced death metal guy, but I suppose I shouldn’t complain about doom metal not being “fast”. But “Nemesis” is a truly good album that I highly recommend to any listeners of the three genres that I’ve already told you about because this album will just rip your face off, and then reattach it with its … Continue reading Dead Alone – Nemesis

The Dead – Deathsteps to Oblivion

Yet another fantastic album of last year that had managed to escape my radar has been given to me by the head of the PR company Transcending Obscurity! “Deathsteps to Oblivion” is (as it sounds) a hardcore death metal album that also has black, sludge, and doom metal thrown into the mix to complete an absolute Goliath-like album. I can say for an absolute fact that this was my favorite sludge metal album of last year. I’d say the same for the other genres but other albums still hold the top spots for each other, but I digress. The Dead … Continue reading The Dead – Deathsteps to Oblivion

He Whose Ox Is Gored – Rumors

That cover and name don’t exactly scream “one of the best doom metal albums you’ve heard for a little while”, I know, but after listening to “Rumors” that’s all the album did for me. Just from this alone I have that feel in the back of my head that He Whose Ox Is Gored can really rise the ranks of doom metal bands out there easily if they make their first full length album which (based upon what they’ve done with “Rumors”) is going to be something else entirely. This album is really catchy and just all around really good … Continue reading He Whose Ox Is Gored – Rumors

USNEA – Random Cosmic Violence

Doom metal. You should have an idea pop into your head when you hear that. If not, then you need to listen to more doom metal. And if you don’t listen to doom metal then you should listen to “Random Cosmic Violence” from USNEA. Don’t ask me what USNEA stands for because I don’t even know if it stands for anything at all so you’re fresh out of luck. No, I’m not saying that I believe that “Random Cosmic Violence” is “the best” doom metal album there is out so all you fan boys out there can calm yourselves down. But I … Continue reading USNEA – Random Cosmic Violence

Tongues – Thelésis Ignis

Most people think debut albums and think of pieces that are around 20 to even 40 minutes long with a good amount of tracks. But Tongues seems to have said “fuck that” and created their debut “Thelésis Ignis” as one with only four tracks but at a staggering length of 34 minutes and 35 seconds. Now that may not seem like much but you’ve gotta remember that that’s only four tracks, one of which is over ten minutes long. And the fact that all of them sound like properly done black, death, and doom metal songs makes the album all the more … Continue reading Tongues – Thelésis Ignis

Inter Arma – The Cavern

To those of you out there who love songs that are very long and keep your attention the entire time, I have this to say : you haven’t seen shit yet. Inter Arma’s brand new album “The Cavern” is a one track album (album, not single) that lasts an astounding 45 minutes and 44 seconds. Forty-five minutes! Holy fuck! “The Cavern” is one of the most amazing tracks that I’ve ever heard in my life. It has fast moments, slow moments, and moments that just sound fucking amazing. To me it’s like if someone took “Master of Puppets” made it better, … Continue reading Inter Arma – The Cavern
