Scion A/V Presents – Red Fang

This 2-track EP is probably one of the best hard rock albums I’ve heard since Kyng’s “Burn the Serum” (fabulous). While, as you might’ve noticed, this isn’t put out by Red Fang themselves but it is made by them. And this EP is good by every single standard for “good” there is out there for every single hard rock album ever. The vocals were the smoothest thing I’ve heard for a while and they are very melodic which sounded amazing in every way along with the guitars and drums that had great sound in both tracks and made both of … Continue reading Scion A/V Presents – Red Fang

Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Carcass have returned with their latest EP which I personally found really, really enjoyable. “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is an EP that is on the “calmer” end of death metal with that they don’t have the same deep, guttural vocals of bands like Cannibal Corpse, and doesn’t have the ultra fast pace of thrash metal. But it’s just the absolute perfect balance to me because I like both of those subgenres and just an album that has taken some of their unique takes on the genres is fucking awesome to me because I could listen to this stuff all day long. … Continue reading Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Tóxica – Egoísmo Autodestructivo

Argentinian thrash metal.   I’m just gonna let that sit up there by itself because it’s an odd statement all on its own. Tóxica has brought forth an EP that is electrifying to the touch and brings energy and adrenaline to whoever listens to it. Now I will say that I’ve no idea in the world what was being said for the entire album, it doesn’t matter because this EP was fantastic simply because of the pure thrash metal that is being played. This is an intense EP that I really enjoyed because I like to think that I listen … Continue reading Tóxica – Egoísmo Autodestructivo

Emergency Protocol – Silent Sounds

“Silent Sounds” is definitely not silent. Quite the opposite in a literal and emotional sense that is really prevalent. This is a post rock album that has lyrics that go down into the true emotional tortures of the soul without discrimination. Each song has an upbeat sound and tone to it because of a great job done by the guitars and drums that both dominate the album front to back. The overall rhythm of “Silent Sounds” is quite good in every single way because it’s catchy, you can listen to it easily, and the flow is solid to where I … Continue reading Emergency Protocol – Silent Sounds

Insaniter – Half Faces EP

This new EP from Insaniter is thrash metal that is beyond acceptable. “Half Faces” brings electrifying guitars (as all thrash metal aims to do) that give this EP a very organic feel to it because of how fast they are while still being able to keep the rhythm and pace sounding amazing along with the vocals and drums that are just great. And I know what you’re thinking – well this just sounds like some ordinary thrash metal band, so why in the actual fuck would you want to hear it when you can just fire up some Metallica if … Continue reading Insaniter – Half Faces EP

The Artisan/Every Minute Can Kill – Darker Days EP

I’ve honestly never heard of a split album, but now that I do and have heard one I’ve come to find that they can be really, really nice. The new split EP “Darker Days” from bands The Artisan and Every Minute Can Kill that comes out on this Tuesday (December 2nd) is definitely one that any metalcore out there should have on their radar. Even though the version that I got to listen to wasn’t 100% finished according to the bands, it’s close enough to the way they want it where they gave it out to us press people in … Continue reading The Artisan/Every Minute Can Kill – Darker Days EP

Obduktion – Mors Janua Vitae

What’s not to like about a nice death metal EP with only two songs? Well, there’s the possibility of you not liking death metal at all, but that’s besides the point. Obduktion’s latest EP “Mors Janua Vitae” has, as you might have guessed by now, only two songs, but that doesn’t mean the quality is bad or those songs are just scraps that they just felt like throwing at us. Quite the contrary. Both tracks from the EP have great sound and feel to them that I found extremely enjoyable. As a death metal fan I was able to connect and … Continue reading Obduktion – Mors Janua Vitae

Skull Koraptor – Dead Ahead

There seems to be a rise in Greek bands deciding to make thrash metal, that or I’ve just been oblivious to the thrash metal scene in Greece like the black metal scene in India. And Skull Koraptor is one of those Greek thrashers that have recently caught my attention; not just because they emailed me but that’s besides the point. Skull Koraptor’s debut EP “Dead Ahead” is an impressive debut that clearly shows the band’s expertise in the thrash metal genre and what their future albums can be like whenever they come out. Each of the four songs from “Dead … Continue reading Skull Koraptor – Dead Ahead

Ascension – Deathless Light

This 2-track 14 minute death-black metal EP is definitely something. “Deathless Light” captures both the hardcore and “softer” ends of this hybrid genre in these 8-minute and then 6-minute songs pretty damn well. Both tracks use their length to their advantage by having enough variety in them to make it seem like there’s multiple songs that have been smashed together into two cohesive pieces that can be listened to easily. And I’ve got a pretty good hunch that death and black metal fans will like this at least a little bit because like I said, “Deathless Light” takes aspects from … Continue reading Ascension – Deathless Light
