Despite – EPic

“EPic” was a killer of an album. I’m sure someone could’ve told by the cover which I absolutely love, it’s amazing. Being Despite’s second release it really blew me away. While I haven’t heard their first release (yet), I can tell already that they were either this good from the start or got much better over time because these types of albums don’t happen on a normal basis. The EP was a very well done energetic metal album that is classified as death metal on their bandcamp page . . . I don’t think I would personally call this death … Continue reading Despite – EPic

Beyond the Styx – Sloughing Off the Shades

“Sloughing Off the Shades” is the second EP from Beyond the Styx that (in my own personal opinion) was made for the more hardcore metal fans who can really listen to any metal and still like it. I’m not saying I didn’t like the EP, I liked it I really did. While it may not be something that’d I’d personally buy and throw on my iPod but it’s definitely something I’d listen to casually. The vocals have a  really good sound to them that I’m positive a lot of metalites will become accustomed to almost immediately. And the guitars and drums are absolutely … Continue reading Beyond the Styx – Sloughing Off the Shades

1 In Five – Hold On EP

Tell you what. . . I really like some nice flowing rock music with good tunes and a nice beat. 1 In Five had all of that. Personally I thought the opening track “Something In The Water” was the best and it really set the tone for the rest of “Hold On”. The entire EP had a nice flow to it and sounded really nice. Each band member did a real good job and  staying as rock as possible and that made each song sound like a true rock song which I haven’t seen for a little while so it’s … Continue reading 1 In Five – Hold On EP

Cries of the Captive – Imperialist

With “Imperialist” being Cries of the Captive’s debut EP I imagined that the album wouldn’t be much and they it could use improvements. I was half right, and that implies that I was also half wrong. I was right because the band could use a few minor improvements and I was wrong because the album was definitely something and not an album to be taken lightly especially as a debut. “Imperialist” was certainly a raw album and probably the most raw that I’ve heard since Wretched’s “Cannibal”. Everything was loud and absolutely hardcore with unrelenting pace and speed. Anyone who … Continue reading Cries of the Captive – Imperialist

At Fault – Terminal

Okay. . . I’ll say it now. . . I really like that cover. Not sure why, but I do. Felt like I should say that. Anyway, “Terminal” started off really slow for me with the opening track, “Hollowed”, not being as engaging as I thought it would be. But the rest of “Terminal” was much more engaging. The vocals had a nice screaming tone to them that really assaulted the ear drums and never let up the whole time which kept the brutality of “Terminal” ongoing without letting up once. The guitars have an absolutely vicious rhythm the entire time and … Continue reading At Fault – Terminal

Burn – You Can Do It (Now) EP

As one of the first bands I ever reviewed, I was more than excited to review another piece of work by them. It was a little nostalgic, I won’t lie, but it was very nice to hear something new from a band I haven’t heard in months. And it was a nice EP to say in the least. As a rock album is has great potential and has a really good sound. The vocals have that special tone to them that I know many rock lovers enjoy on a daily basis and will continue to once they hear this album. … Continue reading Burn – You Can Do It (Now) EP

Last Call For Dignity – First Call EP

Anyone who has their life constantly revolve around music knows for an absolute fact that a band’s first EP, first album, first anything is a very important foothold for a band in the music industry. When I heard Last Call For Dignity’s debut EP “First Call” I decided that LC4D (let’s just use that as an acronym) had made a pretty firm foothold that it might help them get signed fairly quick. That’s if they already haven’t, I don’t know. But as with all debuts there is always something that could be improved or made different. For me this time … Continue reading Last Call For Dignity – First Call EP

Nexus One – PURE HATE

I’d like to give credit and thanks to Paul Belcher on Twitter for the suggestion of today’s and tomorrow’s bands. As you can see the first one I’m doing is Nexus One’s “PURE HATE” (yes, all caps). First off, that cover art. Second off, a really solid debut EP for a small band from the UK that I’ve never heard of. Everything in the EP was very well rounded with nothing over-shadowing another. That’s how I saw it, at least. The vocals are rough and have a tone to them that just takes the cake with the subtle brutality that can be … Continue reading Nexus One – PURE HATE

Colosso – Foregone Semblances

I’ll be honest I’ve never listened to an EP that only has 2 tracks in it let alone an EP that is less than 8 minutes long. Colosso, a Portuguese doom metal band, has given me something I did not expect today. It puzzled me a little bit that one of the two tracks was an instrumental for whatever reason, but I didn’t complain. I like instrumentals. To me every great albums should and/or could have just one short instrumental tracks somewhere in their albums that’ll just make the album all the more great. Sometimes they’re not short, like Five … Continue reading Colosso – Foregone Semblances

Tekilahell – Doomed

It’s always nice for small review “businesses” like me to get random messages from random bands that would like you to review their music. It’s flattering it really is and it will never not be. And as I’m sure you probably guessed, that happened once again to me today. I was messaged on Facebook by Brazilian groove metal band Tekilahell. First thought : nice name. Second thought : well there’s today’s review. And lucky me I was treated with a nice, rough EP by a band I’ve never heard before. When I say rough, I mean sandpaper rough. “Doomed” just grinds along … Continue reading Tekilahell – Doomed
