Whispered – Sakura Omen (single)

The one thing that I could never have seen coming no matter how much I thought about the possibility of it being a thing is melodic death metal mixed with epic metal that is heavily Japanese influenced. Now, that right there just sounds like a big fucking mess as a band trying to merge two cool things together to make each more badass and it would be too good to be true if it worked. Well, it does work and is too good to be true because Whispered have made a name for themselves along with their niche group of fans (of which I’m now … Continue reading Whispered – Sakura Omen (single)

Sojourner – Heritage of the Natural Realm (single)

I’m an absolute sucker for epic (or folk) metal and atmospheric black metal when they’re both done right, but I’ve never imagined how good they might sound if someone smashed them together into one song with both parts being done extremely well. That’s exactly what Sojourner’s debut single has done for me! A 9 and a half minute track with elements of atmospheric black metal along with epic metal elements like a flute worked amazingly well together and only because Sojourner knew exactly the kind of sound they wanted and they fucking knew exactly how to get that sound perfectly. … Continue reading Sojourner – Heritage of the Natural Realm (single)

Desolate Pathway – Valley of the King

Never once has it ever crossed my mind to imagine what would happened if you were to mix quality doom metal with very well done folk/epic metal, but Desolate Pathway’s debut “Valley of the King” shows exactly what that would sound like and it is epic to say in the absolute least! The slower pace of these doom guitars along with the epic metal theme of a great prince going on a long, perilous journey to reclaim his throne with each of the 8 tracks telling of the trials and the difficulties that he went through in order to reach … Continue reading Desolate Pathway – Valley of the King

Ensiferum – One Man Army

The behemoths of folk metal have returned with their latest album “One Man Army” and (as I’m sure you may know) it’s pretty fucking awesome especially since it’s a more than worthy follow up to their previously acclaimed album “Unsung Heroes” which was the absolute shit. This album from beginning to end is as hypnotic and awesome as I expected after watching the music video for the title track which was only a prelude to the badassery that was shown in this album. I know for a fact that any fan of Ensiferum (hello!) will enjoy this album to the point … Continue reading Ensiferum – One Man Army

Solitary Sabred – Redemption Through Force

I’m gonna say two band names and you’re going to have an image for each. Manowar, and HammerFall. Got the images? Now, image smashing those two together and throw in a theme of medieval times and you’ve gotten yourself Solitary Sabred’s upcoming sophomore album “Redemption Through Force”. This Cypriot (they’re from Cyprus) band does an amazing job of going back to the time during the 80s when metal was at its best, and Solitary Sabred chose to draw from the power metal from that era and have that influence their music which turned out to sound like something that came … Continue reading Solitary Sabred – Redemption Through Force
