Cities of the Plain – Salt

Instrumental bands have always peaked my interest as they can manage to create an interesting feel and flow while also lacking lyrics which is usually what helps bring everything together and sound better, and Cities of the Plain is one such band. This guy has put out 2 albums previous to his newest, “Salt”, and they were fantastic, and he continues that chain with this being my personal favorite of all his albums by far. “Salt” is a mere 20 minutes long with 5 tracks, but it literally does and is so much more than what so many other bands … Continue reading Cities of the Plain – Salt

Tempel – The Moon Lit Our Path

There’s an absolute fuck ton of instrumental bands out there, and while some are good there’s always a near equal number of bands who aren’t good. Tempel’s brand new album “The Moon Lit Our Path” is without any sort of doubt one of the higher quality of instrumental bands because holy shit is this album a trip that must be taken no matter what for any metal fan. If you’re one of those people who loves the heavy sound and feel but not so much the deep growls, then Tempel has the shit for you, dammit! All 5 tracks stretch … Continue reading Tempel – The Moon Lit Our Path

Goblin Rebirth (self-titled)

The term “atmospherically creepy” does not even begin to describe Goblin Rebirth’s debut. This instrumental band is a reincarnation of the another band named (guessed what) Goblin, but Goblin Rebirth only consists of two original members while everyone else fills in the blanks. Each track helps depicts a unique tale: the tale of an imaginary film about the birth of an evil dwarf-like monster that sits confidently next to the classic Goblin scores like “Suspiria”, “Profondo Rosso” and “Tenebre”. Only fans of the original Goblin will get those names but that’s besides the point. Every sound and effect of this … Continue reading Goblin Rebirth (self-titled)

Glowsun – Beyond the Wall of Time

That’s a funky looking album cover now isn’t it? Well, what else would you expect from a psychedelic rock band? Definitely something that fucks with your head that this does for me quite enough for me to get a headache if I stare at it for too long. And for whatever reason there have been a pop-up of psychedelic rock bands for me in recent weeks such as My Sleeping Karma and Black Space Riders, and much like My Sleeping Karma, Glowsun is completely instrumental. No words, lyrics, or mouth noises; nothin’. Just guitars, drums, and added effects like the … Continue reading Glowsun – Beyond the Wall of Time

My Sleeping Karma – Moksha

I’ve never been really big into instrumental albums with only listening to a few and liking fewer, but this album . . . This album is something else unlike all the others I’ve heard before. The lengthy songs of My Sleeping Karma’s upcoming album “Moksha” are something that I did not expect when looking at this album cover to say in the least. In each and every song there were a bunch of awesome riffs and psychedelic sounds that added this great atmospheric effects to the album that I’ve never heard before, and that gave “Moksha” an amazing feel to it for … Continue reading My Sleeping Karma – Moksha

Arcade Messiah (self-titled)

Once again, an instrumental album has managed to find itself in my email inbox. Today I was able to get my hands on Arcade Messiah’s self-titled debut album that comes out next month for everyone else. The album is mainly post-rock, but there are heavier moments that can be found throughout the rest of this album which is really nice especially if you can appreciate simply how good it sounds. Each song can be used as something that you can listen to easy with the slightest of head-banging going on, or something in the background to keep your brain focused … Continue reading Arcade Messiah (self-titled)

Fugle (self-titled)

It would seem to me that instrumental one-man bands are clearly underrated in the metal community. I’ve heard all of 2 albums that were purely instrumental and only had one member in them, and you know what? They were good fucking albums. And “Fugle” doesn’t disappoint me at all. The entire album was very, very solid for what it was and it’s the kind of stuff that I’d listen to at work if I needed some heaviness going on with a bit of variety and without having to worry about any lyrics or vocals that could possibly get in the … Continue reading Fugle (self-titled)
