Whispered – Sakura Omen (single)

The one thing that I could never have seen coming no matter how much I thought about the possibility of it being a thing is melodic death metal mixed with epic metal that is heavily Japanese influenced. Now, that right there just sounds like a big fucking mess as a band trying to merge two cool things together to make each more badass and it would be too good to be true if it worked. Well, it does work and is too good to be true because Whispered have made a name for themselves along with their niche group of fans (of which I’m now … Continue reading Whispered – Sakura Omen (single)

Eye of Horus – Infernal Calling

Ah, melodic death metal; one of my favorite genres in the entire metal kingdom simply because it’s intense and has form to it that makes it a little bit catchier to me. Eye of Horus’ new album “Infernal Calling” is no exception to that rule. And like some other melo-death bands, Eye of Horus have chosen to not have as much melodic elements and focus more on the death metal which isn’t bad by any means at all. The guitars had a brutal crunch to them that you should expect from death metal and it’s delivered magnificently, and as you … Continue reading Eye of Horus – Infernal Calling

Archaea – Catalyst

I’m not sure what it is with Gothenburg, Sweden producing amazing melodic death metal bands, but I can say that I’m not even getting close to bored with that place after it’s produced great bands like Despite and Chugger. And now, another such band has been added alongside them and that band is Archaea with their debut full length album, “Catalyst”, being the exact breath of fresh air that I needed as a melo-death fan while still remaining true to the traditional feel of the genre. The “fresh air” that I’m talking about is the fact that Archaea has a … Continue reading Archaea – Catalyst

Despite – Praedonum (single)

Despite is one of those bands for me that no matter they pump out, I manage to love it. Their last EP, “Epic”, was fucking amazing and so was their last single, “Chaos Trigger”. Now this 6-man, 8-stringed melodic death metal band has done it again with their brand new song “Praedonum”. Tackling the issue of children who have been abused and kidnapped are captured within the powerful lyrics as they tell how the disgusting people who commit such crimes will pay for their hellish deeds and then some. The vocals for this song are slightly different from Despite’s previous … Continue reading Despite – Praedonum (single)

Carnivora – The Vision

In my time of exploring melodic death metal and it’s various bands, I’ve not found a whole lot of bands of the genre that are based here in the USA and sound good while they’re at it. It’s just one of those genres that’s more centered in places like Sweden and other European countries. But Carnivora is without a doubt the first American melodic death band that I can honestly say do a realy good job at what they do. They’re new album, “The Vision”, isn’t the perfect melodic death album that I’ve heard before but it is more than … Continue reading Carnivora – The Vision

Countless Skies – Solace (single)

I remember hearing Countless Skies’ debut self-titled album and being absolutely blown the fuck away as this band was as melodic as melodic death metal gets. And I loved it! They only had 4 tracks to their name, but now they add their fifth, “Solace”, from their upcoming and currently unnamed full length album that is due later this year. When I saw that they released “Solace” (which was but hours ago at this time) I immediately went to go check out this song because I was extremely excited to see what else Countless Skies could come up with, and … Continue reading Countless Skies – Solace (single)

Children of Bodom – Morrigan (single)

I’m sure anyone reading this knows who Children of Bodom is so I’m not gonna waste your time by explaining their style of melodic death to you as you just want to know what their new single, “Morrigan”, sounds like. Well it sounds fucking awesome. I liked their previous album “Halo of Blood” but I didn’t love it like many people did, but the style was very intruiging to me and with this new song I can tell that “I Worship Chaos” will be a whole different beast altogether. The beginning of this track starts off very melodic and even … Continue reading Children of Bodom – Morrigan (single)

Human Desolation – Mind Grind Paradigm

The metal scene of Stockholm, Sweden sure has got its shit together because it has been the birthplace of countless great bands and the first one that comes to mind for me is Despite, but now another band has been added to that very good list and that band is Human Desolation with their upcoming melodic death album “Mind Grind Paradigm”. This album has got all you could need out of this genre unless you love the really deep vocals which are not on this album, they’re more of a straight scream if you know what I mean by that. … Continue reading Human Desolation – Mind Grind Paradigm

Killing Gandhi – Cinematic Parrallels

I’ve heard of band taking interludes at certain points throughout an album to provide some sort of insight into what the next track or few will sound like, but I’ve never heard of a band that does “trailers” which is basically an interlude but there’s no music. There’s just the sound of what seems to be a movie trailer and that prepares you for the brutal melodic death metal that Killing Gandhi gives to us in a solid 16-track album, five of which are those trailers. Every track off of “Cinematic Parallels” that actually is music has a great catchy … Continue reading Killing Gandhi – Cinematic Parrallels

Unleash the Archers – Time Stands Still

There have been more than enough hybrid genres that without a doubt capture the scope of the imagination that metal bands can take. Symphonic death metal being a perfect example for that. It’s different, unusual, unconventional, and without a doubt unheard of. Another weird combination of genres is power metal and melodic death metal. Both are melodic, one by name, so I can definitely see why someone thought to combine the two together. And today that someone is the Canadian group of Unleash the Archers who have combined both power metal and melodic death metal into an album that I … Continue reading Unleash the Archers – Time Stands Still
