Got No Ego – Redemption

 Sometimes a little brutality is all you need to make an album more than what it could be if it were just done normally. This goes for a lot of genres, including metalcore. Got No Ego’s newest EP “Redemption” has 4 total tracks that are literally as borderline to deathcore as it gets, but to me they just stay within range of normal metalcore with there not being enough brutality for me to call it deathcore. Each track isn’t the best metalcore that I’ve heard before, but it certainly has good quality that fans of the genre like myself can enjoy very … Continue reading Got No Ego – Redemption

Days May Come – Revolution/Revelation

 Metalcore, deathcore, bullshit, whatever you wanna fucking call it, it has its moments whether you wanna be an elitist dick head or not. And yes, it can suck if it’s put in the wrong hands, but with the right people it can be the music that connects with you heart and makes you want more and more with it’s combination of intensity and smoothness at the same time. Days May Come is like the latter of the two. While I cannot see where they’re going with that cover art, their new album “Revolution/Revelation” is a nice piece of metalcore, deathcore … Continue reading Days May Come – Revolution/Revelation

Let Them Fall – Of Kings & Heroes

 If you were to say to me that metalcore mixed with a medieval theme to it a few weeks ago, I would’ve laughed in your goddamn face and said that that’d never work in a thousand years. Well, son of a goddamn bitch, it must’ve been a thousand years already because medieval themed metalcore is exactly what Let Them Fall’s brand new album “Of Kings and Heroes” is. It is a very nice mix of atmospheric sounds combined with metalcore that I will say wasn’t absolutely fantastic, it was dynamic in its own way and it brought a whole new … Continue reading Let Them Fall – Of Kings & Heroes

On Scalar Waves – Sequence

 Deathcore has always been a weird genre for me because when it comes to “core” music I prefer to just stick with my selection of metalcore and leave it at that, but deathcore is weird for me because I feel like a lot of times the bands can just leave it as death metal and call it a day. But On Scalar Waves’ new album “Sequence” is what I will from now on refer to as my template for what deathcore truly sounds like without straying too far towards metalcore (so much “core” today!) or death metal as I said. … Continue reading On Scalar Waves – Sequence

Seventh Oar – Ordalicum

 Metalcore has always been bittersweet for me with some bands being phenomenal, and others . . . not so much. Seventh Oar’s new album “Ordalicum” is thankfully the first of those two with this album being one of the best metalcore albums I’ve heard since Killswitch Engage’s last album. The intensity of this album is certainly something that you don’t see a lot in metalcore without deviating into deathcore, and yet Seventh Oar have done just that seemingly without breaking a sweat. All 5 tracks off of this album are heavy and they have that special touch that only metalcore … Continue reading Seventh Oar – Ordalicum

Evacuate the City – The Catastrophe

 Metalcore is commonly known to people who don’t normally listen to it (metal elitists) swear upon the entire universe that the genre is just “a bunch of fuckin’ bitch whining and nothing hardcore and err it’s fucking bullshit”. Well I am not such an elitist because metalcore is personally one of my favorite genres because it’s probably the genre that is most packed with meaning to each song while also having two distinct vocal styles that can be one of the greatest combination of vocals that you’ve ever heard (personal examples: Times of Grace, Devil You Know, A Breach of … Continue reading Evacuate the City – The Catastrophe

War Rages Within – Vitriol

 Metalcore is known left and right all over the planet to just be some guy screaming at a really high pitched voice and another guy singing much more calmly and that’s about it. But as like with my favorite metalcore band, A Breach of Silence, “Vitriol” from (like A Breach of Silence, also, son of a bitch) Australian group War Rages Within isn’t like that. Instead its hardcore vocals aren’t as high pitched as most metalcore but are still hard and screaming in a way that I feel fans of the genre (hello) can respect because they work great alongside … Continue reading War Rages Within – Vitriol

In Days Forgotten (self-titled)

 With In Days Forgotten being one of the very first bands I ever reviewed when I began this shit, I leaped on this album when I first saw it on Spotify. Their previous EP was great and now they’re new self-titled full length album is even better! This is what I like to call brutal metalcore which is between regular metalcore and deathcore. If you want a point of reference – Killswitch Engage is normal metalcore and Consumption is deathcore, and In Days Forgotten is smack dab in the middle and I love it! The variety of both conventional and … Continue reading In Days Forgotten (self-titled)

Hollow||Bones – Lionheart: Execution (single)

 Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. “The title says ‘Hollow||Bones’ but the cover says ‘Edenborn’”. Well, they changed their name. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. But that’s not the point here. “Lionheart: Execution” is a terrific single from a New York band that I was told is underrated in their area so bad that the person who told me about them said “it actually hurts a little” that a band that she believes it this talented in her eyes doesn’t get the recognition that she thinks they deserve. Well I will be the judge of that! And … Continue reading Hollow||Bones – Lionheart: Execution (single)

Zaltana (self-titled)

 It’s really nice when you come across something, or it comes across you, and that something happens to be fan-fucking-tastic. Today that little something is Zaltana’s debut self-titled album. And let me tell you for those of you who like you’re death metal but want a really awesome spin on it then this is the shit for you! Zaltana has brought to the table a female vocalist (so there’s something different already) that can take her voice all over the place from the deep hardcore to more a much more melodic sound that brings metalcore into the mix, but not … Continue reading Zaltana (self-titled)
