Sisters Of… – The Serpent, the Angel, and the Adversary

May 17, 2015May 18, 2015 Vinterd

An instrumental album is one thing. An instrumental post metal album is something else entirely. Sisters Of… have created an awesome album with their post metal that brings a whole new meaning to the word “atmospheric” with all 8 tracks having very well done riffs and sounds to them that only a post metal band could do, but Sisters Of… have taken that and increased the awesomeness ten fold and thensome! The album does start out a little slow but then the remainder of the album is great to say in the least as you are taken on a journey … Continue reading Sisters Of… – The Serpent, the Angel, and the Adversary

A Secret Revealed – The Bleakness

April 9, 2015 Vinterd

Post metal has always greatly interested me with its great variety of sounds and tones that can happen in just one album and even one song. “The Bleakness” from A Secret Revealed is a great post metal album in every way and the first track show how true that is because the opening track goes from metal to calm in a second. I personally thought that the vocals where trying just a little bit too hard, but overall they were good and suited the album very well along with the guitars and drums which had a great sound for the … Continue reading A Secret Revealed – The Bleakness

Minsk – The Crash and the Draw

March 24, 2015April 9, 2015 Vinterd

Typically when a popular band comes back from an lengthy hiatus there is much anticipation about the album that they’ll put out whenever they return. For lack of a better example, the best example of this in recent years is Slipknot’s “.5: The Gray Chapter”. If post/progressive metal band Minsk hasn’t made a masterpiece yet than they have with their upcoming “The Crash and the Draw” because this album is everything you could ever want and more. Right from the very beginning it has a great feel to it that’s very much like doom metal but it’s different in a … Continue reading Minsk – The Crash and the Draw

Pineal – Smiling Cult

November 26, 2014April 9, 2015 Vinterd

Pineal’s new EP “Smiling Cult” is (to me) a combination of Tool and some Alice in Chains (both of which are influences for the band) and then what I felt like the vocals for Black Sabbath. I’m not sure why about the Black Sabbath part but I just can’t not find those two similar no matter what I do. Anyway, “Smiling Cult” is a progressive rock/post metal album that isn’t something that I have and most likely won’t listen to every day, but it is definitely a piece that was interesting just because of all the different sounds that it … Continue reading Pineal – Smiling Cult

Oecist – XVIII LII EP

August 30, 2014August 10, 2018 Vinterd

Hardly ever do 100% instrumental albums come across my radar. And even more rarely do I review them (that’s only ever happened once) because they don’t sound interesting to me. But Oecist’s debut album “XVIII LII” (that’s 18 and 52  respectively if you don’t know your Roman numerals) was different. Each of the tracks off of this 5-track EP has a constant tone that’s very atmospheric which makes it sound really nice. Oecist combines many aspects of instrumentalists everywhere into their own music which makes it a very diverse and unique sound even though you can possibly notice the aspects … Continue reading Oecist – XVIII LII EP
