Hybrid Nightmares – Ash and Bone (single)

Coming back with the third installment of their 4 part album “Ages” series, Melbourne based Hybrid Nightmares have come back to us with the first track off of “The Third Age” which is due by either late this July or early August, either way doesn’t matter as I will wait as long as I have to for this album. I still love listening to the previous two albums, “The First Age” and “The Second Age”, every single day because they have an amazingly good quality sound of black metal mixed with progressive metal to make a crushing feel and intense … Continue reading Hybrid Nightmares – Ash and Bone (single)

Myrkur – Onde Børn (single)

I remember listening to Myrkur’s debut album and giving it a fair applause as I liked its style of black metal that went in and out of being atmospheric black metal and just normal black metal. Now we’re back with the one-woman band’s newest single “Onde Børn” which while I thought was overall well done, it was not on the same scale of grandeur of Myrkur’s debut. The vocals were absolutely beautiful and haunting at the same time which made them perfect for the guitars and drums which were what really brought the black metal. Mixed together they made a … Continue reading Myrkur – Onde Børn (single)

Disturbed – The Vengeful One (single)

What’s that? Disturbed has come back after 4 years of hiatus? I’ll take it! Yes, indeed, the purveyors of the power of “oh ah ah ah” have returned with their first album since “Asylum” which I still love with my entire heart. I’ve been a big fan of Disturbed as they’re one of the bands to first get me into metal, but I’m not saying they’re perfect as I cannot listen to many of the songs off of their album “Believe” for whatever reason. But the only thing they’ve brought from “Believe” today is the symbol which is now on this … Continue reading Disturbed – The Vengeful One (single)

Ravenscroft – Into the Dark (single)

I still remember hearing Ravenscroft for the first time and applauding their melody that was done flawlessly for the entire album. Now they have returned with their latest single “Into the Dark” off of their album which doesn’t have a name as far as I know. This song is definite evidence that Ravenscroft still haven’t lost their melodic touch and have no plans to stray from that style or stop using it because they know how to do it so fucking well. “Into the Dark” has smooth vocals and metal guitars and drums that just captured the mind of anyone … Continue reading Ravenscroft – Into the Dark (single)

Five Finger Death Punch – Jekyll and Hyde (single)

I’m going to take a leap of faith and say that we all have heard of Five Finger Death Punch in one way or another. Whether you’ve seen them in metal news, listened to them before and liked it (me), or heard it and then hated it “because they fucked everything up” (my father after hearing their cover of “Bad Company”). Their five albums have absolutely dominated the scene and further increased both the very loyal fan base and the group of haters, and those numbers will continue to increase now that 5FDP have released the single off of their … Continue reading Five Finger Death Punch – Jekyll and Hyde (single)

Kataklysm – Thy Serpent’s Tongue (single)

Coming off of their latest and very successful album “Waiting for the End of Come”, Kataklysm has finally put out a new song that will be on their upcoming album “Of Gods and Ghosts”, and it’s an intense track to say in the least. The greatest thing that “Thy Serpent’s Tongue” brought to the table was an impressive set of guitars that brought the brutal riffs to make the single all the more catchy without losing that signature death metal sound that they’re know for. While I didn’t shit my pants over the vocals, they were definitely solid and fit … Continue reading Kataklysm – Thy Serpent’s Tongue (single)

Sojourner – Heritage of the Natural Realm (single)

I’m an absolute sucker for epic (or folk) metal and atmospheric black metal when they’re both done right, but I’ve never imagined how good they might sound if someone smashed them together into one song with both parts being done extremely well. That’s exactly what Sojourner’s debut single has done for me! A 9 and a half minute track with elements of atmospheric black metal along with epic metal elements like a flute worked amazingly well together and only because Sojourner knew exactly the kind of sound they wanted and they fucking knew exactly how to get that sound perfectly. … Continue reading Sojourner – Heritage of the Natural Realm (single)

Cattle Decapitation – Manufactured Extinct (single)

I have only ever heard of Cattle Decapitation until today. I’ve never heard any of their music and figured that their newest single “Manufactured Extinct” from their upcoming album “The Anthropocene Extinct” was as good as any place to start, and holy shit was I not disappointed! Right from the first sight of the cover art I felt like this was going to be a brutal single and Cattle Decapitation brought the brutality in every single way. The intense death metal riffs alongside the guttural, versatile vocals that have 3 different sounds throughout this single alone: your expected death metal … Continue reading Cattle Decapitation – Manufactured Extinct (single)

Gaillion – Letters from the Skipper (single)

When I say that “Letters from the Skipper” is a free flowing single, I’m not trying to make a pun out of the album cover. This progressive rock song has a very calming feel to it that you don’t normally see in progressive rock because the more progressive side is more of an experimental genre and can have a wide variety of sounds, combinations, and tunes that are more innovative. But Gaillion take a simple route and make this a more calming song as I said and making it ideal for something like a boat ride, as you might be … Continue reading Gaillion – Letters from the Skipper (single)

Lamb of God – Still Echoes (single)

Randy Blythe doesn’t like the idea of sub-genres so I won’t even begin to attempt to label “Still Echoes” or Lamb of God as it is not exactly my field of expertise, but enough bullshit. As I’m sure many of you may know, Lamb of God have recently released a single, “Still Echoes”, to announce their upcoming album, “Sturm und Drang”. I haven’t had the pleasure to sit down and really listen to “Still Echoes” until just today and OH MY FUCKING GOD!! It kicks all the ass! Straight from the beginning this is an aggressively intense album that has a hook … Continue reading Lamb of God – Still Echoes (single)
