Varsity Swim Team (band)

20140623-190743-68863755.jpg I know. . . that band name is super unconventional. . . I stopped on a dime when I saw that and went “. . . what?” But thankfully that old adage “don’t judge a book by its cover” applied itself very well today. I should have known better, too, since many bands have done an exceptional job of being successful metal bands. Like Mushroomhead for an example of another band with an odd name. Anyway, VST (let’s use that as a more brief name) doesn’t have any official EPs or albums out yet which kind of saddens me. Their music actually isn’t bad, but it’s not something that I would call the next big thing. The vocals for their songs are deep and hardcore which give the songs an immediate death metal sound that makes you expect the guitars and drums will be heavy and fast as fuck, but they’re not. The guitars have a steady rhythm that sounds excellent the whole while and the drums themselves have a good beat and sound to them that compliments the vocals and guitars throughout all of their song. If you like music that’s a mix of death metal and metalcore (death-core? Is that what’d it’d be called?) then VST is the band for you and you’d want to stay wary of a possible EP in the future.
