Night Mistress – Into the Madness

You know how some bands sound like others on occasion? Of course you do. For the first half of this album, I was reminded of Avenged Sevenfold. Now keep in mind, I don’t have any particular love for A7X, but I don’t hold any special hatred for them either. But while Night Mistress reminded me of A7X, they did sound much better to me. The style, tone, and the sound is more refined and the rhythm is a lot better in my own personal opinion. The guitars are very well orchestrated, they have a great rhythm and they are an … Continue reading Night Mistress – Into the Madness

Amongst Thieves – Revise. Reform

Metalcore may not always be the best of genres. . . but I like it. It’s different. Now Amongst Thieves is different, but familiar. Their recent EP “Revise. Reform” is a nice short album that is a true metalcore album. The vocals were well done for a metalcore band. They have a good tone and were really in sync with the rest of the band and the lyrics sung had meaning to them that were both uplifting and meaningful. The guitars were heavy, well performed, and had a good rhythm throughout the entire EP. The drums had an excellent beat … Continue reading Amongst Thieves – Revise. Reform

Victory Heights – In Motion

Some of you may know that I am a huge supporter of the small band, We Rise the Tides. Ever since the release of their latest EP “Death Walk”, which I love, I have been keeping up with them on Twitter and promoting the EP in real life when I can. Recently, I saw a post that said they were about to go on tour with Victory Heights. Hell, if this band is going with We Rise the Tides then they must be quite similar right? So, I decided to “investigate” and take a listen to Victory Heights’ new album … Continue reading Victory Heights – In Motion

Azooma – A Hymn of the Vicious Monster

Just like how old Metallica used length to extend the longevity of their thrash metal, Azooma has done the same thing to make their hardcore death metal to make their music sound great for a longer time. “A Hymn of the Vicious Monster” takes the traditional death metal aspects and roots and uses them to its advantage by taking true death metal fans back to the original days of the subgenre, and not many bands can do that anymore. Thankfully, Azooma is not most bands. The guitars in this are so goddamned relentless that it’s ridiculous. Throughout the whole album that is … Continue reading Azooma – A Hymn of the Vicious Monster

Dust Bolt – Awake the Riot

German-born metal bands always have their moments. Sometimes, these moments are rare and don’t come quick enough for some people. But for others, such as myself, are able to wait for the day when a good German metal band pushes out an album that sounds great. Apparently, the latest of these flew under my radar last week and I physically did a double take when I saw this album. I never heard Dust Bolt’s first album, but I’ve heard good things so. . . fuck it, right? This band is full of energy. And I mean a lot. That’s an essential … Continue reading Dust Bolt – Awake the Riot

Stereotypes Among Music

There is no escaping stereotypes in the world that we live in today. There will always be some asshole somewhere down in the bayou who thinks that whatever he finds “unlikable” should be wiped from the planet and destroyed forever. One of the biggest stereotypes from around where I live is that all African-Americans, blacks, some people  (or whatever your PC-filled mind wants to call them) are all stupid, annoying, pointless, and the “absolute reason as to why this country is goin’ down the shitter”; the fact that the KKK is around here doesn’t help either. But I’m not going … Continue reading Stereotypes Among Music

Wolves Like Us – Black Soul Choir

It’s not very often that you find well done albums that mix the two similar and yet different genres of rock and metal together seamlessly, and even less often that you see that as the product of a band’s second album. Well that’s what Wolves Like Us has done here with “Black Soul Choir”. They have taken metal and rock and fused them into one smooth flowing album that sounds remarkably good for only their second album. While at a few places the album can drain your interest, it soon comes back and gains your full attention once again with … Continue reading Wolves Like Us – Black Soul Choir

Watch Them Fly – The Infamous Hannah McKay Pt. II (single)

First off, I know that name of the single doesn’t sound appealing, but don’t let it influence your expectations. The song is actually quite good and well-balanced with the vocals, guitars and drums. Oddly enough, this reminded me of We Rise the Tides a lot. The song has absolute plethora of elements that make this song good. The deeper, heavier vocals are very distinguished, the guitars have a harsh relentless beat to them that sounds amazing, the drums have a good rhythm and resounding pulse to them that add to the well done sound they create. The only real problem … Continue reading Watch Them Fly – The Infamous Hannah McKay Pt. II (single)

Arch Enemy – War Eternal

This is the kind of album that people like me live for. “War Eternal” was just… fucking beautiful. An absolute masterpiece that shall become one of the legends of metal that will be known for generations of head-bangers to come. The entire album is a great representation of all modern day thrash metal mixed with some death metal and with some of the most perfected screaming I metal I’ve ever heard. Just the vocals alone are so fucking amazing that you have to listen to them to know what I’m talking about. The variety and skill that went into the … Continue reading Arch Enemy – War Eternal

We The Machine – The Scarecrow (single)

Since this is only a single, I’ll make this short and sweet as I always have except. . . well it’ll be more short and more sweet than usual this time. “The Scarecrow” was a nice track and a good enough prelude to We The Machine’s upcoming album “Seasons” because it has several elements that people like me can use and “translate” to gain a glimpse as to what the full album might be like. To me, “Seasons” will be a mix of rock and metal with good vocals, guitars, and drums much like “The Scarecrow” did. The vocals, however, … Continue reading We The Machine – The Scarecrow (single)
