Frosthelm – The Endless Winter

Talk about an album that lives up to its badass cover! Frosthelm’s debut full-length album “The Endless Winter” is an absolutely flawless concoction of black metal and thrash metal into something that just blew me away 100% with its demonic fast pace, brutal sound, and just amazing musicianship throughout the entire album. Each and every track that really grinds away at your ears until the only thing left is a pulp that just wants more from the album. The vocals in “The Endless Winter” have that black metal sound to them with the raspy and harsh sound that never lets … Continue reading Frosthelm – The Endless Winter

Enter Shikari – The Mindsweep

I’m going to try so much and not say the words “Linkin Park” in this because this album reviewed me so goddamn much of them. “The Mindsweep” isn’t exactly your typical metal band if your going for heaviness. Now if you know who Enter Shikari is then you know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you haven’t then you probably saw “Linkin Park” (I failed you, I’m not sorry) and either thought “Oh fuck”, “oh yes!”, or just simply “oh”. Well in my case since I was going in relatively blind about this band so it was just “oh”. … Continue reading Enter Shikari – The Mindsweep

Dehuman – Graveyard of Eden

I’m gonna plop down some metal math in the form of equation on your asses. Old-school death metal + modern sound and feel + thrash + brutal 90s death metal + red-hot aggression = ??? Well the answer, my students, is Dehuman’s upcoming album “Graveyard of Eden”. This album is for those of you that I always hear saying, “They need to bring back 90’s death metal, man! It’s the shit!” You know who you are. But this album isn’t just that – it’s this collaboration of all these things that made death metal into what it was and what … Continue reading Dehuman – Graveyard of Eden

Harrow – Fallow Fields

I’m gonna be straight up with you – I saw black and folk metal in the description for Harrow’s “Fallow Fields” and just hopped right on it. I love me some black metal. I love me some folk metal. And I love black/folk metal when it’s put together and done right. Now before I say anything else, both genres definitely were in “Fallow Fields” but there was more black metal than folk metal. The folk metal came in only acoustic parts of these 8+ minute songs even though I enjoyed them a lot, but I was really hoping for a more well … Continue reading Harrow – Fallow Fields

Mad Parish – Procession

Imagine a progressive metal band that had all the norms of progressive metal and does it all in their own special little way, but had vocals that seem very much those of Manowar. That was the defining factor for me liking the album because I love Manowar and have honestly always wondered what would happened if you took some of their signatures, like the vocals, and put them in different genres of metal. Well, if you haven’t guessed already, that’s what Mad Parish did for their latest album “Procession”. Now, before some people start getting mad, I’m not calling Mad … Continue reading Mad Parish – Procession

Graveyard After Graveyard – Hellhound On My Tail

Supergroups. First thing that comes to mind? Myself, I have two bands that pop up at once: Hellyeah and Killer Be Killed. Now those two I’m just using as examples to put images and expectations in your heads for what Graveyard After Graveyard are like. Well take all those images and expectations and throw them out the fucking window. Now picture this: a trio of people who want to revolutionize and change all the rules that black/thrash/death metal revivalists have been doing it, but making their music intense from second one and making it live, breathe, and surge with power. I … Continue reading Graveyard After Graveyard – Hellhound On My Tail

Lonewolf – Cult of Steel

If there was ever a good power metal album from a well known band that I’ve never heard of I’m glad it’s Lonewolf because I now know that there are seven other albums I can go back and listen to because “Cult of Steel” has put this band as one of my new favorite power metal bands with that signature power metal feel to it. If you’ve ever listened to a lot of power metal you know that feel that I’m talking about, and if not then go find some power metal and figure it out for yourself. But “Cult of … Continue reading Lonewolf – Cult of Steel

Comaniac – Return to the Wasteland

Thrash metal. That sums up what Comaniac’s debut album “Return to the Wasteland” is because that’s simply what it is. This Swiss-born thrash metal has that traditional fast paced everything that is signature to true thrash metal everywhere, but Comaniac has given a little bit of . . . aggression (I think that’d be the correct word) that I will admit has been done infinite times before now. However, for whatever reason Comaniac has managed to bring a fresh feel to it that, I’ve no idea why, felt like I haven’t heard done properly in a very long time. It … Continue reading Comaniac – Return to the Wasteland

Countless Skies (self-titled)

I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it again: I fucking love melodic death metal. It is by far my favorite kind of metal followed closely by groove and regular death. And if you’d ask me what my favorite melodic death metal bands out there today are before I heard Countless Skies I’d say Amon Amarth and Despite. But after hearing this beautiful album Countless Skies is definitely up there among my top 3 now. Their debut self-titled EP is just . . . it’s fucking amazing. I honestly cannot find the proper words to explain … Continue reading Countless Skies (self-titled)

Heaving Earth – Denouncing the Holy Throne

This is so far the best blasphemous death metal album of this year that I’ve heard yet! Now I know it’s only been 22 days but just bare with me. “Denouncing the Holy Throne” by its name alone sounds like a brutal piece of death metal that is definitely blasphemous, and it’s true. But Heaving Earth have created the same sound of death metal but it has a different technicality to it that puts an amazing spin on the album which made this so much more better than other death metal albums much like this one where the band is … Continue reading Heaving Earth – Denouncing the Holy Throne
