Windhand / Satan’s Satyrs – Split

Windhand has long been a driving force of modern doom metal and immediately upon inspection is it easy to see why as their fuzzy riffs fill ever listener with a gloomy cacophony that is all but delicious. The Virginia natives are from over as they’re still cruising along, and with some company to jam with! Satan’s Satyrs has also caused a commotion of their very own, and to see them team up with Windhand is a time destined for greatness, and greatness it is in every sense!

Splits don’t tend to be lengthy in order to give each band plenty of time to show what they bring to the table, but with doom metal, it feels incredibly fitting as each band could only have two tracks a piece but over twenty minutes of material! While that’s not the case with Satan’s Satyrs, Windhand takes full advantage of the opportunity by using the first two tracks to bring to us some brand new material that clocks just over twenty minutes to provide us a gripping experience the likes of which we can truly call the Windhand treatment. Filled with a plethora of crunchy rhythms and an acid trip worthy of legend, Windhand starts the split off with one fucking hell of an impression that makes Satan’s Satyrs’ impressive follow-up all the more satisfying. Occupying the final three tracks that total over fifteen minutes overall, Satan’s Satyrs brings the dopey riffs and punk-infused doom that’s both entrancing and well-crafted to allow for a sound that’s as much a real treat to digest as it is a catchy head-banger. It adds a stark contrast to Windhand while still maintaining quite similar, and Satan’s Satyrs pulls it off with an explosive attitude to bring a satisfying end to the split.

The culminating tracks result in a magnificent split the likes of which shows that both bands are far from calling it quits and are still very much on a roll with their careers. Both Windhand and Satan’s Satyrs both do a tremendous job here, and if there already aren’t an absolute fuck ton of eyes on both these acts already then this split will help bring more rightfully deserved attention.

The split releases on February 16th via Relapse Records!
