There are some bands out there that have truly defined the metal scene in places like Bandcamp where it’s bands like Saor and Mesarthim that reign supreme whenever they put out even one song. Among such ranks is the act of Harakiri for the Sky who has become a real treat for any who’ve been lucky enough to hear them, and with their fourth full-length album, this group is far from slowing down with their potent formula that keeps churning out on glorious piece after another.
Ever since their debut back in 2012, this band has caused an absolute tsunami of praise and acclaim from throngs of people as they released new material every two years that’s incredibly well deserved as their distinct style of blending black and post-metal together is viciously potent in every way. From the deep, emotional lyrics to the aggressive execution that always keeps changing things up, Harakiri doesn’t do much in terms of changing up their sound with their latest offering of “Arson”, and while that can be a big negative for many other bands it works magnificently well here. Should a band do practically the same thing for years and after several albums, it can wear down fans who crave at least some sort of variation, but Harakiri substitutes a variety of sound for sheer quality as “Arson” is yet another magnificent opus to have come from this band. That sounds like it could be a bad thing, but Harakiri pulls it off with such mastery and precision that really shows the excellent musicianship that this band truly has, and from beginning to end “Arson” is a journey through the darkest of human emotions to the point where you’ll come out reborn.
I’m positive that this album was a highly anticipated piece ever since its first announcement, and it makes me very happy to know that Harakiri for the Sky is far from losing a shred of their quality. “Arson” shows that this band is still at the top of their game, and I know with absolute certainty that this record will bring Harakiri even more acclaim that they so rightfully deserve.
“Arson” releases on February 16th via Art of Propaganda Records!
