Normally, whenever I’m venturing into a genre that I don’t know much about I tend to stick to the bigger acts before working down to the much smaller bands so that I get a real feel before getting into the nitty-gritty of the scene. Makes sense, right? Well tonight, I decided to flip the script and go right past so many other grind acts that many would consider essential and I’m looking at something quite gripping that has that new band smell right out of Ireland! To put it simply, Aborted Earth has given me something truly fortuitous with their latest work.
A band that has only started in this year but has managed to put out two separate pieces of work in that within five months is something that you don’t really see a lot. But given the nature of grindcore and how tenacious Aborted Earth is from the very start, it’s not hard to see how they managed to achieve it. Every single great element of a solid grind foundation can be found within “Placenta” is all seven tracks, but Aborted Earth manages to make what’s only their second body of work sound much more mature and compelling than what many small acts tend to dish out. We’re greeted with astounding guitarwork that fabulously brings together the realms of intense rhythms with blistering speed with the powerful bass following suit, drums that know no bounds and continue to pulsate with inhuman speed, and the vocals are especially top for me as you could tell me they were from a filthy 90s death metal act and I wouldn’t be any the wiser. And then just to mix up the already flavorful set even more, the second track also feels as though it was ripped right out of 90s filthy death metal, and Aborted Earth pulls it off magnificently as it feels different enough to be an entity all its own but fits perfectly amongst the outside rage and chaos that “Placenta” always has on full display. There are very few times that grind in general has managed to get my attention so quickly and constantly impress me time after time, but it’s with Aborted Earth that they did just that with literally every single track!
Such a thing like this doesn’t cross my ears every now and then, but it only further solidifies my thoughts that there is hope for someone like me in the world of grind and I can tell for a fact that Aborted Earth has a glorious future ahead of them if they continue to grow with this already vicious display of grind that stands out amongst the rest. Should “Placenta” be just the start of things, I won’t be able to stop myself from coming back to witness the fantastic display of power that is Aborted Earth and I can’t help but recommend you do the same!
