The ever-expanding scene of technical death metal is one of those places that has produced what can only be considered some of the most colorful, varied, extreme, and crazy acts of the past few years with so many amazing works being put out from up-and-coming bands on a very consistent basis. As one of the bands that seem to do no wrong in the eyes of the scene’s purveyors, Symbolik is a name that I’ve known for some time now, and it’s with their upcoming album of “Emergence” that it’s no stretch to call this their magnum opus.
With a stylish cover art like that from a very talented artist, one can’t help but feel like the album is already off on the right track before even a single note of “Emergence” is put forth. And then it’s right from the very first note that you can just tell Symbolik went all in when creating the ten tracks of this album, and the overwhelming quality that’s spewing forth from every single one of them is such that it really does make your face tingle because everything that Symbolik could’ve ever done right was pulled off with deadly accuracy and godly talent the likes of which only a few bands have been able to ascertain. They bring to the table the hyper-melodic death metal that’s extremely potent from start to finish with a fine crust of black metal influence topping off this incredibly mature work that immediately sucks you in right from the get-go without giving you so much as a moment to think about what grandeur and mastery you’re getting yourself into. There was a huge gap between this album and its predecessor that I was not aware of before listening to this awesomeness, but it becomes really clear really quick that Symbolik used that time to their advantage to really make “Emergence” something else entirely that fans both new and old won’t be forgetting anytime soon with just the quality of it all alone being enough to keep people coming back for years to come.
The competition is stiff every year no matter what angle you’re looking at it from, and Symbolik’s cast into that very same competition will likely be one of the strongest bids that we will get all year as there is extremely little about this album that isn’t worthy of end-year recommendation. Everything poured into “Emergence” shows us that Symbolik have returned with real talent to back up literally everything they bring forth for this work, and it’s everything the world of technical death metal is always starving for.
