It’s far from a rare sight nowadays to see black metal take a turn toward sonic territory that’s atmospheric and sometimes filled with light as it’s been a bit of a movement throughout certain corners of the underground as bands are pushing for new reaches within a sound that has been as thoroughly explored as this. The sort of thing that can be quite delicate in particular circumstances, only a few are able to capture all of that and much of more as their careers go on. Having shown their worth and offering a magnificent blend of post-black metal that leaves nothing on the table, Together to the Stars is the against-the-grain name that many of us have been missing. With the arrival of their third effort, we’re coming up on what’s arguably their most accomplished work yet.

Oftentimes it is the case that the more engaging works of post-black metal are those that cut into the very core of the soul where each of our deepest vulnerabilities lie with only the most potent of works able to carve so deeply and effectively. Simultaneously, however, it’s the sort of material that must be able to lift up the listener above that very adversity with immense catharsis an outcome that many take to great effect. Together to the Stars is absolutely one of those names with every given thing that they’ve summoned forth in order to bring “The Fragile Silence” to life adding simple truth and clarity to that fact. Taking more than a few pages from the realm of hardcore with the vocals while always making sure to add some fresh instrumentation that catches the listener off-guard, Together to the Stars always make damn sure to keep us guessing as to what is precisely going to come next with plenty of the decisions made here simply not what one would normally expect to find out of post-black metal. Yet, “The Fragile Silence” is anything but typical. A real amalgamation of what it means to embody the core values of your sound while pushing forth into new territory to make the work in question wholly your own without exception. As much as a personal statement for the band itself while representing some of the best values of what post-black metal has to offer, Together to the Stars is standing out from the crowd more than ever before.

A rare sight to see in the underground and a more than welcome avalanche of fresh air from all that the modern landscape of black metal has to offer, Together to the Stars come out on top in virtually every form with this victorious creation. Shrouded in darkness but nonetheless a passionate creation from beginning to end, to fall into “The Fragile Silence” is to find yourself in a deep well of humanity that’s as intense as it is beautiful.
