While many of us tend to find metal all over the world from the usual suspects like Scandinavia, there are still bastions of the underground to be found in virtually every country across the world, yet not all of them are able to break through and really show us what they can be if given the opportunity. For some places like Chile, Japan, or India, that means cultivating your scene to become something undeniable for those that stumble upon it and discover all glory there is to be had. But for some places, there are those that summon such an intensity that we have no choice but to pay heed to what they offer. For Ireland, Coscradh is one such phenomenon with their latest effort one that’s already rattled the heads of many of the world over.

As the years have gone on and thousands upon thousands of performances pass us by, there are always going to be those that seek to not only deliver something that’s undeniably larger than life but something that we have no choice but to gravitate towards. Whether it’s out of fascination that such a thing can be brought into this plane of existence or something else, there are those that bend the genre to their will and offer us something that is terrifyingly effective at what it seeks to accomplish. Having built up their power over the course of ten years, Coscradh’s personal brand of truly menacing black-death metal has reached a horrifying and fascinating peak with all that’s offered throughout “Carving the Causeway to the Otherworld”. This is extreme metal of a truly exceptional sort. The very earth is torn asunder by the overwhelming might of Coscradh after cultivating their malicious craft to a terrifying extent, all fueled by a unique vision that sees the band’s Irish heritage influence this madness such that it would be hard to find elsewhere. A powerful creation energized by both ancient and old magics, “Carving the Causeway to the Otherworld” is anything but an easy or straightforward listen. Coscradh dug deep to ensure their second full-length album is something that would make its impact known many times over. It would be an insult to suggest that they did anything less than that in magnificent fashion with the results simply staggering.

With a creation such as this, each subsequent listen offers us another vision into the insanity that Coscradh holds complete dominion over throughout these eight utterly scathing pieces. Where many might seek to make some sort of sense or even a mild level of understanding when it comes to a craft such as this, these Irishmen seem right at home in a realm that’s as unknowable as it is incorporeal. For everything summoned throughout “Carving the Causeway to the Otherworld”, it demands to be made clear that this is an effort like few others that have come before it, yet it’s sure to be the blueprint for many who come after for the spells and ruminations behind this record are all too intoxicating for new names to not carry forward in works of their own.
