While I can never get away from my inclination toward all things in the world of heavy, I’ve never been able to shy away from the adjacent sounds that offer much of the same atmosphere and emotion despite dwelling in completely different genres. Ambient is an exceedingly strange realm, yet I’ve always been fascinated by it. A largely voiceless realm where the weight of existence presses down on your body and soul? Many have found intrigue in such territory with Pulsar1081 more than delivering on that very front.
It can be quite difficult to pin down themes of any sort when diving into creations of ambient as much of the journey is left entirely up to the imagination and personal experiences of the listener, and that’s part of what has always made the genre interesting from the get-go. Ethereal in nature but exceedingly menacing in execution, experimental dark ambient can oftentimes hold some of the most talented visionaries that seek to explore what all can still be done. In the case of what Pulsar1081 has accomplished throughout “L’inizio della fine.”, it’s obvious that this is a performance that sought to cut deep down beyond the marrow of your bone into the core of your spirit with the results sublime even in the work’s smallest moments. Pulsar1081 is exemplary at luring you into its dense world of mystery and obscurity with little more than a whisper pulling you ever deeper into these six tracks that feel extracted from another dimension altogether. Something never really feels quite right as you explore the halls of “L’inizio della fine.” with the captivating darkness of Pulsar1081 singularly irresistible for any who want to find themselves in a world that’s in the state of great change.
The subtleties are what oftentimes truly make a work of this genre interesting in the first place, and it is clear time after time that Pulsar1081 has a deep understanding of that simple yet incredibly effective concept. It has been quite some time since the world of ambient has brought something before me that feels rich and full of life, and that’s precisely what’s been delivered in “L’inizio della fine.” with the results nothing short of fascination in a realm that does not easily conform to the supposed rules of our reality.
