With the arrival of its second album, Hanging Garden is slowly making itself known as such an act that’s not to be underestimated.
Despite this being but the act’s second offering in two years, make no mistake in thinking that this is but the first time the mastermind behind Hanging Garden has been an inhabitant of the underground. Having garnered quite a fair bit of experience in other acts across the spectrum of metal, it’s with this act in particular that we’re able to see what this musician is fully capable of with the progressive nature of this death metal not leaving any opportunity for half measures should success be truly seized. “Dream Death” stands as an irrefutable triumph for Hanging Garden in every sense. The absolute whole of the record demands your attention lest the finer details and nuances of the record become lost on your with their inclusion truly making the album the rich tapestry of mastery and evocative songwriting that it is right from the beginning. Jagged at times but nonetheless beautiful for what it dares to be in the face of adversities, “Dream Death” is a sprawling experience that has so much experiences to behold and admire. Should you simply allow Hanging Garden to grab you by the very whole of your being, you will be taken through a mesmerizing world of progressive death metal the likes of which we rarely receive with the splendor and magnitude of this record speaking for itself time after time.
The sheer amount of greatness that’s to be found in the vastness of the more progressive side of metal is something that is constantly being tapped into, yet performances such as these feel few and far between. A writhing creation that never sits in one place for more than a few moments at a time, Hanging Garden delivers on every unexpected front that one could dare ask for with the end result of “Dream Death” an exquisite listen that holds many secrets should one but take the time to uncover them all.
