Blasphemists Temple – Demo

Intensity, by all accounts, is the name of the game in many corners of the underground, but what good is such presence if you do not know how to properly channel it to your advantage. When done so, your listeners can be flattened and pummeled into oblivion. We’ve no shortage of bands that attempt to bring something like that you life, but few are able to deliver anything that offers real substance and weight. Yet, sometimes, out of nowhere can a band appear that defies expectations and offers a new avenue for glorious intensity. With this demo, Blasphemists Temple is that very band.

Naturally, as is the case with virtually every demo, there’s a rough and raw aspect that is to be expected when diving into a demo, but that’s something that can easily be used to the band’s advantage if they offer a foundation that is already primed to engage the listener without hesitation. In such cases, an effort that goes for the throat and distorts the listener’s perception of reality can oftentimes be an easy path to underground success, and it’s clear throughout the whole of their demo that Blasphemists Temple took that concept and ran with it. Embodying what it means to be an absolute wall of sound from beginning to end, these three tracks are nothing if not pummeling udpon the flesh and surgical when it comes to rending the soul. Blasphemists Temple offers us an uncouth brand of drone-laced doom metal that siphons the very light from the world as we know it with the drawn-out riffs drowning in a suffocating atmosphere that is nigh on persistent in its intimate devilry. This is a bare-bones offensive that doesn’t offer too terribly much in intricate nuance, but Blasphemists Temple shows itself to be more than capable of unwavering evisceration as these three tracks does an impeccable job at showing us what this act can already accomplish.

A band’s entrance in the underground can be exceedingly important should the right notes and strategies take place in order to plant something special and interesting before the listener, and I think it’s more than safe to say that Blasphemists Temple did that to great effect with this demo. Unapologetic in its intensities and leaving nothing on the table in ways of sheer magnitude, this is a demo that lays the groundwork for what’s sure to be a beast in the world of drone-doom that delivers sublime darkness the likes of which we aren’t treated to often enough.
