Dead Alone – Nemesis

This album is probably the most perfect blend of black, death, and doom metal that I have heard recently. My only true lamentations about this album is that the album seems to last a lot longer than its actual run time and I’m more of a fast paced death metal guy, but I suppose I shouldn’t complain about doom metal not being “fast”. But “Nemesis” is a truly good album that I highly recommend to any listeners of the three genres that I’ve already told you about because this album will just rip your face off, and then reattach it with its … Continue reading Dead Alone – Nemesis

Unbibium – The Coming of Gozer

I’m not exactly the biggest fan of deathcore simply because I like my death metal as just death metal and my metalcore as just metalcore. I’m not saying deathcore is bad I just like the two factors of this combo as themselves and not smashed together to make some “fresh, new, and amazing”. But Unbibium’s latest single titled “The Coming of Gozer” is such that at the end of the just over 5 minute song it left me sitting here in my fuckin’ computer chair giving this song a solid thumb up in approval. Now again I don’t exactly find … Continue reading Unbibium – The Coming of Gozer

Lord Dying – Poisoned Altars

Second album. Second goddamn album. I did not believe it at first when I saw that this was only Lord Dying’s second release because it sounds like they’ve been doing this for a long time with how fucking good “Poisoned Altars” is. When I first saw that cover I thought that this was either going to be a terrible album or an absolute beast, and thankfully it was the latter this time around. The riffs in all these songs made them some of the most catchy and awesome sounding death metal that I’ve heard in a while. This might cross over into … Continue reading Lord Dying – Poisoned Altars

The Dead – Deathsteps to Oblivion

Yet another fantastic album of last year that had managed to escape my radar has been given to me by the head of the PR company Transcending Obscurity! “Deathsteps to Oblivion” is (as it sounds) a hardcore death metal album that also has black, sludge, and doom metal thrown into the mix to complete an absolute Goliath-like album. I can say for an absolute fact that this was my favorite sludge metal album of last year. I’d say the same for the other genres but other albums still hold the top spots for each other, but I digress. The Dead … Continue reading The Dead – Deathsteps to Oblivion

Slaves of Evil – Madness of Silence

As I’m sure just by the cover art alone, this is a death metal album that doesn’t let back in any sort of way. “Madness of Silence” is an absolutely face crushing album that is made just for the metalheads who love their metal raw, untamed, taking names, and fucking shit up around every corner while destroying everything in its path. The vocals are guttural, the guitars’ rhythm is destructive, the drums are vicious in every song, and the feel of this album alone sounds as if if this album had arms it’d be putting you in a choke hold while listening to … Continue reading Slaves of Evil – Madness of Silence

Ara – Devourer of Worlds

This is by far the most Cannibal Corpse-like album that I’ve heard since . . . well . . . Cannibal Corpse! “Devourer of Worlds” is an ultra raw death metal that absolutely melts your ear drums. Everything from the vocals to the drums are hardcore in every single fucking way. Now you might be thinking “Awe well if it’s so much like Cannibal Corpse then why do I need to listen to it if I just fuckin’ listen to Cannibal Corpse instead?” Well Ara brings a dash of technical metal which sounds amazing along with the death metal that … Continue reading Ara – Devourer of Worlds

Cretin – Stranger

Holy. Fucking. Shit. This album is so goddamn raw that if it were a steak then it’d be still attached to a live cow; as raw as it gets. I love it . . . “Stranger” is by far the epitome of grindcore death metal albums of 2014 simply because of how amazingly well done it is! Everything about this album is brutal to the core and just doesn’t end for the entire fucking album and it’s great! If you like both grind and death metal and REALLY want to see a band combine the two and make it work then Cretin … Continue reading Cretin – Stranger

Cyhyraeth – Servant to the Fire

Before I get anywhere, let me just say that I love that cover. It looks badass. Now, Cyhyraeth is the best melodic death metal band to have come across my radar since Despite did a few months ago. But what Cyhyraeth brings to the table that shakes things up a little bit is that they have a female vocalist. And what other melodic death metal band has a female vocalist? Arch Enemy. So that raised a flag for me simply because of that possibility that Cyhyraeth could be as good. Well personally they’re not as good as Arch Enemy but they are definitely up there … Continue reading Cyhyraeth – Servant to the Fire

Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Carcass have returned with their latest EP which I personally found really, really enjoyable. “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is an EP that is on the “calmer” end of death metal with that they don’t have the same deep, guttural vocals of bands like Cannibal Corpse, and doesn’t have the ultra fast pace of thrash metal. But it’s just the absolute perfect balance to me because I like both of those subgenres and just an album that has taken some of their unique takes on the genres is fucking awesome to me because I could listen to this stuff all day long. … Continue reading Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

War On All Fronts – Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1

Technically, War On All Fronts isn’t a record label. It’s a fanzine that has just very recently started putting out releases and this fantastic compilation is one of them. “Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1” is an extremely solid compilation of fast paced metal that ranges across the genres of black, thrash, death, and speed metal in its finest moments from the underground metal scene. All of these bands and their songs bring a ferocity to their respective genres and infuse them with lightning speed and each song compliments the previous one and the following song so the flow between … Continue reading War On All Fronts – Let’s Start a War… Vol. 1
