Embrional – The Devil Inside

In terms of raw brutality and sheer force, this is probably the best death metal album of this degree since Cannibal Corpse’s “A Skeletal Domain” last year. And I think that just by the cover art alone some of you may already be staring at it going “I’m gettin’ a piece of that shit!” Well you’d be totally good with me if you’re compelled to listen to “The Devil Inside” when it comes out because this album has the brutality switch turned on for absolutely everything from the amazing vocals to the digitally added audio like at the beginning of … Continue reading Embrional – The Devil Inside

Thulcandra – Ascension Lost

As a death and black metal fan I feel like I can say with a degree of confidence that this is a badass album. I personally think that this is more melodic black metal than blackened death, but the band calls themselves blackened death so I won’t argue; I just think it sounds badass. The vocals have a great melody and sound to them that I know any fan of black or death metal can enjoy simply because of its hardcore raspy sound that we’ve all known and loved, the guitars have awesome rhythm and feel that only the drums … Continue reading Thulcandra – Ascension Lost

Triumvir Foul – An Oath Of Blood And Fire

This cover practically screams the genre: death metal. Old school death metal to be precise. Triumvir Foul’s new upcoming EP “An Oath of Blood and Fire” is a nostalgic trip for any aged hardcore metal fan lover of all genres because this album teleports us back to the 90’s where death metal truly felt like you were grinding up corpses with a meat grinder. I love it. Everything just blew my fucking mind with this EP to every extent, especially when I found out this was a two man band. I swear. A two goddamn man band! I was – am! … Continue reading Triumvir Foul – An Oath Of Blood And Fire

Insepulto – The Necrodex

Take a wild guess on what genre this is. Yeah, that’s right. This shit is folk metal! Now if you have half a brain you know that’s a straight up lie and that this is death metal the one of the highest degrees. Old school death metal if you want to get specific. And no, I’m not yanking your chain this actually feels and sounds like the 90s death metal that we all know but not all may love and I’m okay with that. Insepulto has done something with “The Necrodex”that I feel like many bands out there who try to re-envision … Continue reading Insepulto – The Necrodex

Conceived By Hate / Akheron – Coalition of Death

Who figured that one album made me feel like I could run a marathon at light speed and punch people in the face while doing it? Well that is exactly what this combination of death thrashers Conceived By Hate and Akheron did for me in their upcoming split album “Coalition of Death”. Now you might be thinking “since you say both these bands are death and thrash metal then what’s the difference between the two?” Well, my young metal head, Conceived By Hate is more death metal oriented and Akheron is more on the thrash metal side. If you know … Continue reading Conceived By Hate / Akheron – Coalition of Death

Dehuman – Graveyard of Eden

I’m gonna plop down some metal math in the form of equation on your asses. Old-school death metal + modern sound and feel + thrash + brutal 90s death metal + red-hot aggression = ??? Well the answer, my students, is Dehuman’s upcoming album “Graveyard of Eden”. This album is for those of you that I always hear saying, “They need to bring back 90’s death metal, man! It’s the shit!” You know who you are. But this album isn’t just that – it’s this collaboration of all these things that made death metal into what it was and what … Continue reading Dehuman – Graveyard of Eden

Graveyard After Graveyard – Hellhound On My Tail

Supergroups. First thing that comes to mind? Myself, I have two bands that pop up at once: Hellyeah and Killer Be Killed. Now those two I’m just using as examples to put images and expectations in your heads for what Graveyard After Graveyard are like. Well take all those images and expectations and throw them out the fucking window. Now picture this: a trio of people who want to revolutionize and change all the rules that black/thrash/death metal revivalists have been doing it, but making their music intense from second one and making it live, breathe, and surge with power. I … Continue reading Graveyard After Graveyard – Hellhound On My Tail

Countless Skies (self-titled)

I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it again: I fucking love melodic death metal. It is by far my favorite kind of metal followed closely by groove and regular death. And if you’d ask me what my favorite melodic death metal bands out there today are before I heard Countless Skies I’d say Amon Amarth and Despite. But after hearing this beautiful album Countless Skies is definitely up there among my top 3 now. Their debut self-titled EP is just . . . it’s fucking amazing. I honestly cannot find the proper words to explain … Continue reading Countless Skies (self-titled)

Heaving Earth – Denouncing the Holy Throne

This is so far the best blasphemous death metal album of this year that I’ve heard yet! Now I know it’s only been 22 days but just bare with me. “Denouncing the Holy Throne” by its name alone sounds like a brutal piece of death metal that is definitely blasphemous, and it’s true. But Heaving Earth have created the same sound of death metal but it has a different technicality to it that puts an amazing spin on the album which made this so much more better than other death metal albums much like this one where the band is … Continue reading Heaving Earth – Denouncing the Holy Throne

Despondent – Awakening the Elder Gods

Holy. Fucking. Shit. I should’ve known what I was getting myself into when I simply just saw the band logo which I had a hard time reading. Now before I go any farther, I am normally not a fan of brutal death metal because it’s just too much for me personally in terms of brutality. I’m not saying it’s bad; it’s just not exactly my cup of death metal. But Despondent’s upcoming EP “Awakening the Elder Gods” may just very well be my favorite album of this subgenre. I’m not totally sure why. Maybe it’s because (I’m not saying it … Continue reading Despondent – Awakening the Elder Gods
