In the world of heaviness, damn near anything goes. At any given time, competition is a fierce thing that can chisel out some truly exceptional talent should the right circumstances arise, and it’s still fascinating to see excellence sprout out of nowhere even after all that this corner of music has summoned forth. Yet truly exceptional pieces that seize the opportunity with a clenched fist are what keep us coming back time after time with such acts few and far between. With a fiery spirit and more than enough punch to rise to the occasion, Okay You Win stands out of the crowd in stupendous fashion with their forthcoming effort.
With the vast potential that’s available here in the realms of heavy rock, bands like Okay You Win feel like striking gold. We can come before dozens of bands that are in the same vein with arguably many of the same elements in place as they make their own way forward, but it’s only on the rarest of occasions that we’re given a band like this that is even rarer still in the delivery of albums like “End of Days”. This is the kind of music that’s felt deep and meticulously crafted to be cranked loud. You are meant to feel the reverberations of these riffs in your feet and the ethereal passages down to the core of your soul. From the very get-go, “End of Days” makes itself known as a certifiable ripper! The type of rock that you hear once, might think it’s okay, but then it just keeps playing over and over again in your head later to the point that you are downright compelled by the spellbinding smoothness of Okay You Win, and the only cure is another blast. Loud, unapologetic, and fiercely intelligent is damn near every move it makes, this record is an earworm the likes of which heavy rock is always salivating for. “End of Days” practically has it all, from the mild psychedelia, excellent dynamic songwriting, and hypnotism offers a singularly devilish sort.
Okay You Win may not be the name many of us know, but after experiencing this throttler, you won’t soon forget it. There are always plenty of bands out there that are seeking to make a name for themselves, but few can ever hope to accomplish what “End of Days” pulls off in its eight pieces of straight magnificence. All of this doesn’t even take into consideration that this is but the debut album from Okay You Win, making the magnitude of the work all the more electrifying.
“End of Days” releases on June 26th via Blues Funeral Recordings!
