Year of the Goat – The Unspeakable

I remember the first thing that I thought when seeing the band name was “Satan! Satan! Satan!”, then upon seeing the cover it was more of “…Satan?…”, and after hearing a few tracks it became that I couldn’t detect any sign of Satan as far as I could tell with Year of the Goat’s upcoming album “The Unspeakable”. This was a surprising album because I expected it to be a heavy record with vocals that I couldn’t begin to understand, but this album takes more of a rock sound to it with the guitars having an awesome groove to them … Continue reading Year of the Goat – The Unspeakable

Ecstatic Vision – Sonic Praise

If someone were to have told me that there was a nice blend of a classic 70s sound mixed with groovy riffs that were chill but awesome at the same time, I would’ve been skeptical. Not out of the question, of course, it just doesn’t sound like it’d work to me. And yet hear I am after hearing such an album, a debut no less, that earns my two thumbs up with just 5 tracks on Ecstatic Vision’s “Sonic Praise”. Sometimes less is more and that is without a question true for this album because each track is a well … Continue reading Ecstatic Vision – Sonic Praise

Ravenscroft – Into the Dark (single)

I still remember hearing Ravenscroft for the first time and applauding their melody that was done flawlessly for the entire album. Now they have returned with their latest single “Into the Dark” off of their album which doesn’t have a name as far as I know. This song is definite evidence that Ravenscroft still haven’t lost their melodic touch and have no plans to stray from that style or stop using it because they know how to do it so fucking well. “Into the Dark” has smooth vocals and metal guitars and drums that just captured the mind of anyone … Continue reading Ravenscroft – Into the Dark (single)

Glowsun – Beyond the Wall of Time

That’s a funky looking album cover now isn’t it? Well, what else would you expect from a psychedelic rock band? Definitely something that fucks with your head that this does for me quite enough for me to get a headache if I stare at it for too long. And for whatever reason there have been a pop-up of psychedelic rock bands for me in recent weeks such as My Sleeping Karma and Black Space Riders, and much like My Sleeping Karma, Glowsun is completely instrumental. No words, lyrics, or mouth noises; nothin’. Just guitars, drums, and added effects like the … Continue reading Glowsun – Beyond the Wall of Time

Iona Grove – Breathe

I’ll be honest. When I normally think of hardcore I just think of punk but the band is more organized and wants to bring a sound. Now sometimes it fails, sometimes it blows you mind. This one blew my mind. “Breathe” from Iona Grove was an excellently done 3-tracks album in the composition of the tracks, the pure sound, and feel of each passing moment. And the one thing that flawlessly put that all together was the fact that this is melodic hardcore which is something that I’ve never seen before if I have to be completely honest. It was … Continue reading Iona Grove – Breathe

Black Space Riders – Refugeeum

Making a follow up to a critically acclaimed record for any band is a challenge because the question comes into play if the band has lost their touch or if they’ve run out of any good material or inspiration for new material. But in the case of Black Space Riders and their upcoming fourth release, “Refugeeum”, it is clear that this band has still got their touch since their last album which was apparently really good. This album, though, is something that I could never see coming. “Refugeeum” was a 9-track experience that I will not soon forget with there … Continue reading Black Space Riders – Refugeeum

Mulu Lizi – Men on Fire

I honestly thought that this was going to be a hard rock album just by the cover alone, but it actually turned out to be alternative rock (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). All 5 tracks off of “Men of Fire” are very catchy with the whole band pitching in a nice melody that when thrown together had a real poppy sound to it and made it very pleasing to me because I can listen to more radio-friendly music, but this was really good radio music if you know what I’m getting at. Mulu Lizi started each track with either a … Continue reading Mulu Lizi – Men on Fire

Avi Rosenfeld – In the Sky

I’ve never been real huge into classic rock since I think some of it is pretty dragged out and a tad bland to me, and I honestly had a bad feeling that Avi Rosenfeld’s newest album “In the Sky” was going to be that way. Now before I go anywhere let me just say that I was wrong in that feeling, but I’m not in love with the album. To me, “In the Sky” is something that I’d listen to every now and then, you know? It’s something that someone like me couldn’t put on the daily playlist and listen … Continue reading Avi Rosenfeld – In the Sky

Gaillion – Letters from the Skipper (single)

When I say that “Letters from the Skipper” is a free flowing single, I’m not trying to make a pun out of the album cover. This progressive rock song has a very calming feel to it that you don’t normally see in progressive rock because the more progressive side is more of an experimental genre and can have a wide variety of sounds, combinations, and tunes that are more innovative. But Gaillion take a simple route and make this a more calming song as I said and making it ideal for something like a boat ride, as you might be … Continue reading Gaillion – Letters from the Skipper (single)

My Sleeping Karma – Moksha

I’ve never been really big into instrumental albums with only listening to a few and liking fewer, but this album . . . This album is something else unlike all the others I’ve heard before. The lengthy songs of My Sleeping Karma’s upcoming album “Moksha” are something that I did not expect when looking at this album cover to say in the least. In each and every song there were a bunch of awesome riffs and psychedelic sounds that added this great atmospheric effects to the album that I’ve never heard before, and that gave “Moksha” an amazing feel to it for … Continue reading My Sleeping Karma – Moksha
