POSTE942 – Extended Play

This brilliant 5-track album of southern metal from POSTE942 is something that is very edgy for hard rock and has a lick of metal in there to shake things up a bit, and it works fabulously. “Extended Play” busts in with a grunge sound to the guitars that are greatly backed up with the melody of  the vocalist whose voice is absolutely perfect for this southern style of hard rock where each riff is gritty as fucking sandpaper. The cover art alone shows the grit that is jam packed into these songs to the absolute brim which gives the album the feel … Continue reading POSTE942 – Extended Play

XII Boar – Pitworthy

I’ve heard of shock rock, I’ve heard of rock’n’roll, but never in my life have I heard of metal’n’roll and I wish I had before! XII Boar (pronounced Twelve Boar) have brought a new sound to that of shock rock and made it more metal, more awesome depending upon who you are. Now when I say “metal” I’m not saying hardcore vocals or growls, the vocals are still that of shock rock and put out a nice groovy (if I can say that word) feel to each and every song off of this impressive album. The part where the metal … Continue reading XII Boar – Pitworthy

Plain (self-titled)

Despite the band/album name making you have an idea of what the music will be like straight from the get-go, Plain’s self-titled debut album has a solid sound to it that many hard rock and metal fans can enjoy as I have. While I don’t think Plain brings anything totally new and mind blowing to the table, they do modify that feel we all know when we hear a good hard rock song/album but it’s different so that it’s not just that copy and paste music that is dreadfully overused today. This album has plenty of riffs to through at … Continue reading Plain (self-titled)

Obsidian Key – LOUD!

This band is technically both progressive rock and metal, but I’m going to stick with just prog rock because Obsidian Key’s upcoming album “LOUD!” isn’t heavy or hardcore enough for me to consider it metal. There were plenty of calm pieces throughout the album that were very soothing and had a great sound to them even though they’re the opposite of what you’d expect from the title of the album. While some of the songs are lengthy, they do keep the quality consistent all throughout the album and they’re all something that rock fans from everywhere will be able to … Continue reading Obsidian Key – LOUD!

Grenouer – Unwanted Today

You know . . . when a band like Grenouer puts out what is now eight albums and are really good especially in their eighth album, you’d think that that band would be on the grid, doin’ world tours and shit like that. But quite the opposite is true because from what it would appear, Grenouer has quite the cult following of a relatively tiny group of people that have heard them before and are now fans of their progressive metal/rock sound and style as I am myself. “Unwanted Today” is most likely the ultimate album for people out there (and yes they exist) … Continue reading Grenouer – Unwanted Today

Steve Saluto – The Silver Skull Legend

I’ve honestly no idea who Steve Saluto is, but apparently he’s a big deal even though I’ve never ever heard of him before today. But you know what? I wish I had of heard of him before today because his latest solo EP “The Silver Skull Legend” is an excellent rock album in every aspect to its flow to the riffs to the versatility of Saluto’s playing of every instrument. The vocals had a very smooth and melodic feel to them that are just the sort that I know just about anyone can listen to any time of the day … Continue reading Steve Saluto – The Silver Skull Legend

Papa Roach – F.E.A.R.

I understand why some people don’t like Papa Roach, I really do. They believe that they are “the reason that rock and metal are in the shitter because they’ve made their way onto every stupid teen girl’s wall”, well even if it is true (which I know it’s not) I still don’t fucking believe it and I will like whatever music I please and goddammit I liked “F.E.A.R.”. Now the acronym is for the first track “Face Everything And Rise” so if you’re wondering why the cover doesn’t match the album title that’s why. This was a very solid alternative … Continue reading Papa Roach – F.E.A.R.

Enter Shikari – The Mindsweep

I’m going to try so much and not say the words “Linkin Park” in this because this album reviewed me so goddamn much of them. “The Mindsweep” isn’t exactly your typical metal band if your going for heaviness. Now if you know who Enter Shikari is then you know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you haven’t then you probably saw “Linkin Park” (I failed you, I’m not sorry) and either thought “Oh fuck”, “oh yes!”, or just simply “oh”. Well in my case since I was going in relatively blind about this band so it was just “oh”. … Continue reading Enter Shikari – The Mindsweep

The Finite Beings – A Life to Come

I am personally not exactly the guy to go to for Christian metal/rock albums since not really a lot of them come across my path and when they do they are sadly sometimes not really noteworthy in my eyes. But the opposite is true for The Finite Beings’ latest album “A Life to Come” which has a great sound to it that can really hypnotize rock and metal listeners alike because this album has the fluid rhythm of a good rock album, and the proper amount of spice for us flexible metal listeners to be able to jam to real … Continue reading The Finite Beings – A Life to Come

Silent Divide – Master of Disguise

It’s honestly rare for me to come across a debut of any sorts, listen to it, and then give it two thumbs up. But Silent’s Divide’s hard rock/alternative metal debut EP “Master of Disguise” has managed to do that! This band is also fronted by a woman who has an amazing voice and just uses it to their advantage by creating a smooth rhythm and awesome soothing sound that go surprisingly great with the guitars that are very melodic and catchy. And if that doesn’t do it for you then the bass has a killer beat to it that creates … Continue reading Silent Divide – Master of Disguise
