Obedience to Dictator – Hogzilla

Brutal death metal has never really been my favorite kind of death metal, but I’ve always been willing to check it out for curiosity’s sake. And thank God (or Satan, whatever) that “Hogzilla” by Obedience to Dictator is something that I could really listen to even though I’m still not crazy over it. The vocals were as brutal as you would expect from brutal death metal while also having a killer sound, guitars that were intense, and drums that matched just about everything else in terms of intensity. If you’re into brutal death metal then “Hogzilla” is for you. It … Continue reading Obedience to Dictator – Hogzilla

Deconsecrate – Nothing Is Sacred

I don’t think I have to convince you that Deconsecrate holds nothing back because . . . well . . . you see the fucking cover art. Generally, the cover the visual representation of the album, and “Nothing Is Sacred” is no different. Straight from the very first second of the opening track, Deconsecrate lives up to their name as this album is brutal in just about every sense of the word. The vocals are the only thing that aren’t as brutal as they could be (not deep enough), but overall they are done really, really well and bring intensity … Continue reading Deconsecrate – Nothing Is Sacred

Dystrophy – Wretched Host

I think anyone who sees that album cover can all immediately agree that this is death metal without a doubt. But it’s not normal death metal, otherwise it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. While still retaining that feel of old school death metal, Dystrophy brings a 5-string electric violin into the mix. Albeit it’s only heard on the opening and closing tracks, it’s still interesting enough and very unique compared to what you’d hear from a not so unique death metal album. In between those two tracks are beefy and intricate death metal tracks that absolutely destroyed. Brutal vocals mixed … Continue reading Dystrophy – Wretched Host

Cattle Decapitation – The Anthropocene Extinction

I remember hearing the intro track, “Manufactured Extinct”, off of this album months ago and thinking “I cannot fucking wait for this album!” Thankfully, those words weren’t said with false hope as Cattle Decapitation’s newest album “The Anthropocene Extinction” is more than I could’ve fucking wanted. Ergo, this album is fucking amazing in every sense of the term for any sort of death metal mixed with grind and progressive metal. This album absolutely shreds in just about every single track and it just made my brain melt out of my deafened ears after I played “The Anthropocene Extinction” at least … Continue reading Cattle Decapitation – The Anthropocene Extinction

Despite – Praedonum (single)

Despite is one of those bands for me that no matter they pump out, I manage to love it. Their last EP, “Epic”, was fucking amazing and so was their last single, “Chaos Trigger”. Now this 6-man, 8-stringed melodic death metal band has done it again with their brand new song “Praedonum”. Tackling the issue of children who have been abused and kidnapped are captured within the powerful lyrics as they tell how the disgusting people who commit such crimes will pay for their hellish deeds and then some. The vocals for this song are slightly different from Despite’s previous … Continue reading Despite – Praedonum (single)

Carnivora – The Vision

In my time of exploring melodic death metal and it’s various bands, I’ve not found a whole lot of bands of the genre that are based here in the USA and sound good while they’re at it. It’s just one of those genres that’s more centered in places like Sweden and other European countries. But Carnivora is without a doubt the first American melodic death band that I can honestly say do a realy good job at what they do. They’re new album, “The Vision”, isn’t the perfect melodic death album that I’ve heard before but it is more than … Continue reading Carnivora – The Vision

Countless Skies – Solace (single)

I remember hearing Countless Skies’ debut self-titled album and being absolutely blown the fuck away as this band was as melodic as melodic death metal gets. And I loved it! They only had 4 tracks to their name, but now they add their fifth, “Solace”, from their upcoming and currently unnamed full length album that is due later this year. When I saw that they released “Solace” (which was but hours ago at this time) I immediately went to go check out this song because I was extremely excited to see what else Countless Skies could come up with, and … Continue reading Countless Skies – Solace (single)

Dalkhu – Descend… Into Nothingness

It is simply amazing when just two people come together to make something that even 4 or 5 people can’t even when given all the time in the world to do so. Dalkhu is a very interesting and dynamic duet whose second album, “Descend… Into Nothingness”, is a stroke of blackened death metal genius that I’ve never heard from a two man band before in my life. As you might have already guessed from that cover art, this album is raw, brutal, and holds nothing back as there is nothing keeping Dalkhu in one place as their music is chaos … Continue reading Dalkhu – Descend… Into Nothingness

Corpse Garden – Entheogen

There is nothing wrong with going back to the roots of something and trying to make your own take on it. That is exactly what Corpse Garden is doing with their death metal. They are clearly hearkening back to the early days of death metal with their new album, “Entheogen”, as it is a very raw and brutal piece that fans of this genre should be all over because it is a surprising hour long album that will not disappoint. Everything from the cover art to the guttural vocals to the fact that this shit is raw beyond comprehension is … Continue reading Corpse Garden – Entheogen

Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches

Eleven albums is more than enough albums to really create different sounds that a band wants to experiment with and I know for a fact that Cradle of Filth is no exceptional as their first ten albums varied, but not a whole lot, to where no album repeated the same sound and feel twice and the same exact thing goes for their brand new album, “Hammer of the Witches”. While I can’t say that this is my favorite album that Cradle of Filth has put out, I can say that I enjoyed this for what is was and all that … Continue reading Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches
