Wretched – Cannibal

As Decibel Magazine put it “Wretched breathe much-needed life into thrash-influenced death metal.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. Many of us had heard Wretched’s second album “Sons of Perdition” and thought it was the shit. Well I’ve got some news for those motherfuckers. . . “Cannibal” is even better!! This entire album is by far the band’s best work yet and is start to finish a killer of an album that takes thrash and death metal and mashes them together to form something super heavy, ultra-fast paced, and fantastic. It’s hard to find an album like this that is … Continue reading Wretched – Cannibal

Tombs – Savage Gold

“Savage Gold” is a well done brutal LP by Tombs, a band I’ve never heard of before but have now found out that they are one of the most “beloved underground metal bands in all of metaldom” according to some people I asked who listen to more of the uncommon and unknown bands than I do. I don’t usually listen to underground metal. It’s okay to me, not the best for my taste. I know for a fact there are many others out there that’d get on my ass for saying that, but I really don’t care. This album was … Continue reading Tombs – Savage Gold

The Amity Affliction – Let the Ocean Take Me

This band is the Australian Killswitch Engage. And I say that with the utmost confidence that many people can back up what I;m saying because The Amity Affliction is a band that I’ve unfortunately never heard, and now that I have I must listen to their two previous albums because “Let the Ocean Take Me” was fucking fantastic. The dual vocals in this made me (metaphorically) shit my pants. The guitars and drums were so heavy and went so well with the vocals and their lyrics that it felt so good as a metal fan to hear because this is one of those … Continue reading The Amity Affliction – Let the Ocean Take Me

The Apparition – Seeking Prospect

“Seeking Prospect” starts off with an instrumental as many other metal bands have done so before it, like Disturbed’s “Remnants” at the beginning of “Asylum” which was a great album as we all know. Many albums that start off instrumentally like this usually turn out to be good, and sometimes other great albums have the instrumentals mid-album, but I typically find a metal album to be great if it has one instrumental track anywhere. Thankfully, this one didn’t let me down. I wish this was a longer album, but all I’ve got to live with is a 5-track EP which … Continue reading The Apparition – Seeking Prospect

Our Last Enemy – Pariah

“Pariah” is a very hardcore, brutal, and relentless that has a fantastic sound to it that’ll have head-banger listening to it for years to come. The band’s brutal style is personified in the music videos for “Devour the Sun” and “10,000 Headless Horses” which did a great job of displaying the harshness and brutality of the tracks and the album. The vocalist has a very rough, very harsh voice that doesn’t let up the entire album and keeps every single track heavy, brutal, and hard on the ears and it is amazingly well done. The guitars and drums keep an … Continue reading Our Last Enemy – Pariah

Kyng – Burn the Serum

Look at that album cover. Look at it. It’s fuckin’ great, well, to me at least. Usually whenever I see a cover like that I think a band is trying to make up for the music being terrible, like how some poor guy with a small pecker will buy a really nice Corvette to pick up women. But I digress. The album cover, thankfully, wasn’t compensation for a terrible album because “Burn the Serum” was great. And the fact that it was from a band that I’ve never heard of before is even better. A lot of albums you hear nowadays don’t … Continue reading Kyng – Burn the Serum

Falconer – Black Moon Rising

First off, folk metal as always had it’s moments for me even though I don’t listen to a lot of it. One of these moments is when I heard “Unsung Heroes” by Ensiferum. Great song no question. Unfortunately, most other folk metal songs cannot replicate that sound for me. Falconer has always been one of those bands that I listen to just for the sake of something to listen to. It’s one of those bands for me that you hear come on and you think about it before going “eh, fuck it I’ll let it play”. I had hopes that … Continue reading Falconer – Black Moon Rising

Vileborn – Vileated EP

Alternative metal has always been a bittersweet sub-genre for me. It’s had a lot of good moments, but also a lot of bad ones. So whenever I know a band is considered alternative metal I always go in prepared for anything and everything. Never know what you’re gonna get. But thankfully, Vileborn wasn’t one of those bad moments. I was contacted over Twitter to review this album by a very nice and friendly lady who shared my interest for metal and gave me a band that consists of what I like in a band. And she works with them so … Continue reading Vileborn – Vileated EP

Hellyeah – Blood For Blood

Anyone who read my “Thoughts on Mudvayne” rant a few weeks ago knows how I feel about Hellyeah. Hellyeah to me, now, is the closest link people have to Mudvayne anymore in terms of new music, and right now, with this album, they have given us a blessing that gives Mudvayne fans nostalgia for the old days. But without thinking about Mudvayne, “Blood For Blood” by itself is a fantastic album without question, no doubt, no excuses, no bullshit, completely amazing. I’ve been looking forward to this album ever since “Sangre Por Sangre (Blood For Blood)” was released on YouTube … Continue reading Hellyeah – Blood For Blood

Cities of the Plain – Where Our Homes Used To Be

This album was. . . different to say in the least. I don’t usually listen to instrumental albums, much less ones made by a one man band. I can really appreciate and sympathize with Sam Blum with the struggles of undertaking anything on that degree by yourself because this whole review site and everything is made, managed, and was created by one singular person. So when Sam emailed me about his band, Cities of the Plain, I almost felt compelled to listen to this album because I wanted to see what one man could do, and how well he could … Continue reading Cities of the Plain – Where Our Homes Used To Be
