It ought to go without saying that an approach driven by deep emotional suffering is something that has long held a place within the vast capacity of black metal. Many times over have we seen evocative black metal capture our imaginations and tug at the depths of our souls with the raw power of such a concoction something that can still offer greatness well into today. Even still, there are bands that can take such a simple concept and take things incredibly far with Encasement the latest to do so with the results of its debut downright sensational.
At some point or another, we’ve all grappled with dark emotions that leave us at our smallest. When the light from the world seems to fade and it feels as though the only problem in this world is our inclusion, living can become a trial that seems insurmountable. Yet, nothing is set in stone. Encasement expounds on such themes to dramatic effect throughout the absolutely entirety of its spectacular debut. In every given minute of this eponymous creation, we’re given a performance that feels raw and immediate but never once does Encasement sacrifice nuance or intricacy for a sound that only knows how to barrage the listener with an intensity that comes without form or multiple dimensions. Rather, Encasement knew precisely what to do in every instance to ensure maximum excellence. While always grounded in black metal, this is a creation that borrows from many other adjacent styles to guarantee the record is always moving forward in some form or another. Quickly, the record takes on an oppressive air that is sharp and focused with Encasement always making damn sure to deliver a performance that allows you to relate and identify with the magnitude that’s on display throughout damn near every given minute of the evocative intensity that each of these pieces boast.
By the time this debut comes to an end, Encasement stands victorious in not only surmounting its own doubts and self-imposed inhibitions, but as an entity in the underground that immediately demands our respect for all that has been accomplished in what’s only the act’s very first effort. Encasement has done great things all throughout this performance. It’s something to be studied and appreciated with it being made exceedingly clear that this is a name we would do well to keep a sharp eye on in the future.
