Given the sheer depths of the underground and all that it has to offer, it’s only natural that we’re inundated with bands of all sorts looking to offer something new, familiar, and everything in-between when putting out new material for us to become lost within. At some point, however, we are brought before an act that knows precisely what they’re going for and armed with both the knowledge and capacity to bring it all about in such a way that is nigh on effective. Channeling death metal that can be traced back to the early 90s Floridian scene, Hexorcist demonstrate masterful and brutality with everything offered in their sophomore album.
Hexorcist is of a sort of band that I like to think encapsulates much of what can be found in the underground when things are taken to an extreme form, unfiltered and unchanged, in the name of preserving both the band’s vision and the sound from which they’re taking several cues from. We have no shortage of bands throughout the different parcels of the underground that seek to give reverence through imitation to the old schools of death metal, but few rising names have been as effective as Hexorcist with “Crucificial Imprecations” a work that cements the Miami act as one that is not to be underestimated. This is a fast and ferocious offering of calculated death metal that leaves nothing on the table nor anything to chance as Hexorcist becomes one with their craft to make this work one that perfectly encapsulates death metal of this sort without compromising. There’s nothing overly fancy or deep going on here other than death metal efficiency of a sort that is terrifying to be caught before yet all the more entrancing for what it accomplishes. Ripping solos, caustic riffs, dramatic speed, and impeccable craftsmanship, Hexorcist has only achieved magnificence with all that went into “Crucificial Imprecations”.
There’s plenty of be excited about when we’re talking about rising death metal as a whole. Already it was the case that Hexorcist had a place in that conversation, but it’s with everything delivered throughout “Crucificial Imprecations” that we’re given eight more spectacular reasons to watch this act very closely for they are clearly in an upper echelon of the sound in a way that many bands can only ever dream of being in. To enter into this fiery record is to be torn limb from limb and cast into an abyssal inferno with Hexorcist being the perfect conductor for such a sinister conduct.
