When you’ve become an established part of your sound, you can damn near do anything you want and there will be more than a few people that will mow each other down in order to check out what you have to say next. We have no shortage of such acts throughout the many different echelons of the underground with numerous bands, new and old, able to come around and still wield power of a sort that is nigh on engaging from top to bottom. As one of the newer faces of stoner metal, 10,000 Years has yet to allow their power to wane to ensure their position in the conversation of top-tier bands of their kind, and their fourth album only further cements their spot.
Already, 10,000 Years is one of those bands that has no need to further prove that it has what it takes to not just stand out in the highly competitive underground, but thrive in it. After an EP and three albums after getting the ball rolling in the accursed year of 2020, the reputation of this act has rightfully spread far and wide given the success they’ve brought to the realm of stoner metal. Here, with their fourth album of “Esox Lucifer”, we’re given a display of power and knowledge over the craft that is truly fitting for a band like 10,000 Years with the eight euphoria-laced tracks of the record more than all one should need to be convinced that this band still has so much more to give. Without seeking to reinvent themselves nor the sound they’ve done a great job at perpetuating for years now, it’s the entirety of this record that delivers on practically all fronts. Armed with a flavorful brand of darkness born out of a deep love for sci-fi and fantasy that truly knows how to tickle and entice the mind, “Esox Lucifer” is nothing if not a captivating listen that never once dares to pull so much as a single punch.
“Esox Lucifer” is an efficient and beyond effective demonstration of power and prowess that does more than remind us what 10,000 Years still is even after a tremendous run up to this point, it showcases to us precisely why this is a name that has been dominating for all these years and will continue to do so without struggle. 10,000 Years clearly still has so much to show us with this record likely still but the tip of the spear for what these guys can throw down.
