I think it’s safe to say at this point that the Polish underground does not get nearly enough credit. Over the years, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of witnessing all sorts of bands crop up from all corners of the map with countries like India, Ireland, and Chile offering magnificence many times over that I never would’ve expected when I first started exploring what metal has to offer. Poland, however, has been quite busy with plenty of fascinating acts in my time with acts like Garota rising above and delivering time after time like what we see with this new fiery EP.
It was just the other day that I was proclaiming how well the realm of thrash has been treating me this year, and to see Garota before me again is just even more proof to that fact. With a devilish display of power that sees black metal and thrash brought together in a truly stupendous form that holds nothing back, Garota has made a tremendous name for itself as it has been quite active since first arriving in 2021 with time making it obvious that this is an act that has so much to throw down. “Strąceni w Ciemność” may only have five tracks to call its own, but it’s hot off the heels of last year’s full-length album that Garota displays a tremendous power that’s as calculated as it is merciless to demonstrate to listeners new and old that this black-thrash act is anything but waning when it comes to its magnificent power. Without compromise nor wasting so much as a moment, Garota offers us a vision of black-thrash that leaves nothing on the table as listeners are left utterly flattened by the overwhelming speed while it’s the ferocious black metal that seals the deal with riffs, devilry, and intense blasphemy the likes of which know how to immediately sink its hooks into your flesh. I would forgive anyone for giving “Strąceni w Ciemność” a quick glance and not thinking it would amount to much, but a swift investigation ought to end any and all such thoughts.
Despite how intertwined both thrash and black metal are at times, it’s not nearly often enough that we can bear witness to an act that can actually tap into that potential with real power and real strength to offer the listener an experience that offers no less than prime evisceration of the darkest sort. Garota has been on the rise in recent years for all the right reasons with “Strąceni w Ciemność” but the latest reason to know and respect the ascension of yet another exceptional Polish act.
