Slowly but surely, I think the realm of occult rock is spreading its wings and gathering more fans as time goes on as more people discover all the splendor that’s to be found in such a sound. Dark and enchanting when put in the hands of people that know what they’re doing, occult rock is something that can truly captivating and electrify. When crafting their forthcoming work, it’s clear that Pyre of Descent knew how to deliver such a spectacle in heaps.
Part of the glory when it comes to occult rock is how many different forms the sound can take dependent entirely on the hands that are crafting the piece in question. The sound can deliver on many fronts be it the outright devilish to something that only barely dabbles in the subject material. In the case of Pyre of Descent and what they summon throughout “Albedo”, it’s somewhere in the middle where occultism doesn’t always feel like the center stage attraction but more of just a small piece of what makes these six tracks something that keeps you coming back time after time. Armed with a fantastically smooth production, intelligent songwriting, a mildly psychedelic atmosphere, and more than a little bit of gothic tones that keeps things undeniably flavorful, “Albedo” quickly evolves into something that washes over your entire spirit. Pyre of Descent clearly knew what it was doing from the very onset of crafting this record as each step is made with far more than simple confidence and a little bit of artistry. Rather, this duo fully plunged itself into the depths of what this sound can offer listeners when approached by hands that meticulously craft an experience that cannot easily be likened to many others.
A sleek performance such as this is not something that we witness nearly as often as we’d like, but, I suppose, that’s a big part of what makes efforts like this so interesting when they do manage to come around. What Pyre of Descent has put forth throughout the entirety of this work is something that even the most mild fan of the genre should find an interest in for to uncover the darkness of “Albedo” is to lose yourself in a work that’s always seducing you ever deeper within.
