There just isn’t much that can compare to some metal that’s straightforward, loud, and downright proud to revel in the darkness of the night. It’s the sort of thing that has haunted the nightmares of many parents and offered nightcrawlers the soundtrack to their activities in a way that is downright electrifying. By all accounts, speed metal is something that is more than fitting for such a concept and it’s bands like Louder that embody it to the fullest with their debut album nothing short of a ripper that’s clearly pulling from the glory days of the genre.
A no-frills approach that is little more than undeniable riffs and blistering speed is something that this sound is known for, but it’s not too terribly often that we’re given a band that has the right attitude to pull it all off in a way that feels thrilling, invigorating, and downright intoxicating from start to finish. Armed with the eight tracks of “Devil’s Night”, it’s made obvious in each of these testaments to the night that Louder makes itself immediately known as an act with the bite and punch that’s more than enough to back up anything they have to say. Sticking to the core foundations of the genre while always ensuring plenty of personality and freedom as they terrorize the streets past curfew, Louder lives up to its name in every sense as well as delivering on the promise that the very title of “Devil’s Night” offers the listener that dares to walk its alleys. This is but the debut from Louder, and it feels as though they’ve already gotten a solid approach locked in and ready to fire on all cylinders while we’re left in the dust, utterly pummeled. “Devil’s Night” is far from something that sought to offer listeners something wildly new, but, rather, something that resonates with that rebel in our souls with nothing holding us back as the night rolls on in all of its cacophonous glory.
Where many of the sound fail to measure up, it is here at every turn that Louder stands out from the crowd, boasting an energy and intensity that we simply don’t see often enough.
