As is the nature of time in the underground, bands come as quickly as they go. We witness all sorts of talent ebb and flow as time goes on with there always being exceptional names that we’re clamoring to hear more from, but destiny has other ideas for one reason or another. When it comes to real talent in the realms of progressive metal, it can feel all too long before we’re met with a name that can continuously come around and show us what magnificence they can throw down. Parius has rightfully become known as such an act with their release schedule certainly leaving more to be desired, but their quality is undeniable with their upcoming third album only continuing that trend.
It feels like years go by before we’re given anything substantial to latch onto in the world of progressive metal. In my experience it does, at least. Much like a genre such as folk metal, the progressive reaches of the metal spectrum have so much potential and glory to be had that feels rarely tapped into whether it’s because of bands missing the right opportunities, not having the proper kind of talent needed to channel such supremacy, or something else entirely. Few bands are like Parius who, for over ten years now, has made a real name for themselves with an ironclad reputation thanks to their impeccable albums that really summon the finest aspects of what progressive metal can still become. Throughout the entirety of their newest effort, “Alchestronomy”, we’re reminded of the power and magnitude that Parius has become known for. A fantastically rich tapestry telling the tale of two gentlemen pitted against each other in an ideological battle fueled by a false sense of immortality on both sides, this is a record destined for greatness and cult status much like its predecessors. Overloaded with personality and always keeping the listener on the very edge of their seat as every minute of “Alchestronomy” is different than the last with the absolute entirty of this record something that Parius should be unabashedly proud of with their reputation sure to grow immediately upon the release of the record.
We could always use more spectacle and talent in the world of progressive rock and metal. Parius, once again, proves to be a rare exception the likes of which is truly tantalizing to behold for every one of the senses. “Alchestronomy” soars brilliantly and offers us what’s surely one of the very best performances of the genre 2026 will offer us by the time the year comes to a close.
