When ferocity and unyielding madness are at the forefront of what you’re looking to bring to the table, death metal is an obvious choice that has brought forth legions of qualifying offensives. The style has seen countless iterations of chaos over the decades with the sheer density of the underground itself lending loads of new talent more than enough inspiration to keep things moving even if we’re retreading much of the same territory. Yet, it must not be said that great things still cannot be achieved in such conditions. A fresh set of eyes and different hands are all the conditions that could possibly be needed in order to deliver something that thrives in its own dark machinations. Delivering such terror with its first full-length, Profanation is a name we would do well to remember.
It doesn’t take a genius nor an expert of death metal to make the obvious observation that this sound has seen an immense level of attention and experimentation over the years with there always being plenty of musicians willing to try their best to push death metal to become something far more. Admirable as that may be, there just isn’t much that can compare to an absolute wall of visceral madness that seeks nothing less than the very light of your soul. An offensive that is unparalleled in its straightforward drive for intense evisceration is what death metal was practically made for, and it’s thanks to bands like Profanation with overwhelming creations like “Ultra-Noise Warfare” that we’re able to have creations that manage to beat your skull in while simultaneously somehow leaving you desperate for more. Nothing about this record is fancy or nuanced in any significant way as Profanation sought a raw, voracious experience that’s solely focused on caving in every bone in your body, and it would be an understatement to say that this blind aggression did not succeed in that mission. Alongside a malicious and effective infusion of grind to make the record all the more diabolical, “Ultra-Noise Warfare” more than delivers on its name with every given inch of this record meant to drive you insane, boil your blood, and sear flesh right off the bone in milliseconds.
Dense and simply merciless, the riffs of this record are downright pummeling from beginning to end. Creations like this are why the underground remains such a magnificent place to find talent we can never anticipate with bands like this being precisely why we keep coming back for more. There may be eight different bands named Profanation according to The Metal Archives but make no mistake! “Ultra-Noise Warfare” proves that this band is already set apart from the rest in ways that will leave the unsuspecting and unprepared naught but a piling of stinking viscera by the end of such a vicious performance.
